In his spare time, 'Grizzly Bear' fan and animator Gabe Askew created a compelling video [04:25] for the band's song "Two Weeks." Lead singer, Edward Droste, appreciates the fan video. posted by ericb (20 comments total) 12 users marked this as a favorite

"I chose the song 'Two Weeks' by my favorite band Grizzly Bear because it inspired me. Even though the video is about two men, I connected the lyrics to my own relationship with my wife. It took about four months of after-work time and weekends. I would estimate it to be about four work weeks. The lyrics, to me, told the story of a relationship where one person is uncertain of the others loyalty. You get sucked up into the daily grind and forget to tell the one you love how you feel. They get insecure and worry that you aren't committed. And the line 'I told you I would stay' is like a battle cry for fighting to keep your relationship together when it seems to be on the brink."

I've seen that thing everywhere lately. However, I'd never seen the "real" video before. That highspeed video effect is trippy as hell.

That fan video was a lot more interesting when I thought the line in the lyrics was "I told you I was gay."

That was incredible... I'm speechless.

Song is pretty weak, but the animated fan video is MUCH better than the original one, which I can't stand to watch more than ten seconds.

Sigh. Go take a nap.

Wow, that original video is the first time I've seen the uncanny valley approached from the real-life side.

I watched this video while sitting in a cafe to avoid my girlfriend, who I'm fighting with, so I can get some work done. We are both enormous Grizzly Bear fans (saw them just a couple weeks ago!)

This video has made my day. I don't pay attention to words a lot, because the music is so amazing it distracts me.

The art in this video reminds of the hope within me that one's light is worth shining. The art captures, exactly, the process of an internal creative fire erupting from our core of love. I strive daily to picture this firelight, and remind myself of how it connects me to all things.

Oh, this is dreamy and artistic. I really like it! Thanks for linking it. I haven't been keeping up with Grizzly Bear for a little while now. The original video is something else; it almost looks as if their faces had the eyes purposely made huuuge. I feel like that would be my POV if I were on er acid or something.

Anyway, cool fanvid, pretty song.

I'm officially addicted to that song now after watching the video twice (and the band's version of the video which is not so good). Thanks Mefi.
