But see, there is joy and revelry, slaughtering of cattle and killing of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine! "Let us eat and drink," you say, "for tomorrow we die!" - Isaiah 22:13
This graphic re-use of the image I've seen floating 'round the made me smile (not that this was the only one that made me happy). posted by filthy light thief at 12:32 PM on September 4, 2009
punkfloyd, I think there is a G.C. credit on that image at the bottom. posted by boo_radley at 12:33 PM on September 4, 2009

The work is compelling, would love if the FPP came with a little background on the artist. posted by BillBishop at 2:13 PM on September 4, 2009
This one is very cool too. It xrefs the lyrics from the Violent Femmes' "Kiss Off", which starts: "I need someone, a person to talk to..." posted by chavenet at 2:13 PM on September 4, 2009

Why does the same texture thing annoy you?
Annoy, no; bore, yes. Monotony tends to have that effect on me. posted by Sys Rq at 2:23 PM on September 4, 2009
Every now and then you run across someone that really understands how to mash culture and design in such a way as to give you goosebumps or 'how come i never thought of that' moments. I find that the best are almost always low-tech or, at least, achievable with the technology i've got readily available and invariably inspire me (if only for a while) to go out and try to do something as clever.
Sys Rq: "Annoy, no; bore, yes. Monotony tends to have that effect on me."
And yet, your user image. I'm not picking on you, it's just incongruous to me. posted by boo_radley at 2:40 PM on September 4, 2009
Wow. There's cute and then there's brilliant. There's both here. posted by Durn Bronzefist at 3:03 PM on September 4, 2009
And yet, your user image.
My user image is one image shown once on one page. Not seeing the parallel.
While I fully appreciate what's going on on top of the old paper texture here (really! neat!), the fact that the artist has lazily chucked in that same layer (to his credit, he seems to be alternating two or three) into all the images ruins the illusion for me, and along with it goes a lot of the magic.
That I've seen that old paper texture in a zillion other projects in the last couple years doesn't help matters. posted by Sys Rq at 3:13 PM on September 4, 2009
The purple field is just so monotonous (it was a failed pun).
Out of curiousity, do you teach or practice graphic design that you've seen it so frequently? posted by boo_radley at 3:27 PM on September 4, 2009
Out of curiousity, do you teach or practice graphic design that you've seen it so frequently?
Practice, yes.
And, I mean, don't get me wrong: The aesthetic effect pleases me. (Even if I am a bit sick of it at this point.) It's just, you know, I see one stray black pixel repeated in a few images and I'm all like, stop bein so lazy you big lazy. At least move the shit around a little, y'know?
Have I sufficiently justified my personal opinion yet? posted by Sys Rq at 3:49 PM on September 4, 2009
Sys Rq, I would like to give you a hug. Would that be ok? For me to give you a hug? posted by boo_radley at 3:54 PM on September 4, 2009
I've been following 9 0 0 0 for a little while on Flickr. I should hate this artist: 9 0 0 0 makes so many obvious and tired pop culture references. But what he/she actually turns out is often hilarious, insightful, and occasionally brilliant. It completely transcends the raw material. posted by rottytooth at 3:56 PM on September 4, 2009
The mood of many of the images reminded me of a site I really enjoyed back in the late 90s, which seems to still be doing its schizoanalytic thing pretty well. posted by mistersquid at 8:13 PM on September 4, 2009 [1 favorite]
omg, twiggy! ...why isn't that wallpaper, and why isn't that wallpaper on my walls? posted by sexyrobot at 12:12 AM on September 5, 2009
Hey sorry Sys Req I was just trying to figure out if it was a super lazy trick 9 0 0 0 was employing that was delighting my uninformed perception of the stuff, or if it was the old paper aesthetic at all that you were bored by. And you have answered that question fully so thanks with putting up with the minor flame-yness. Now I know that if I want to steal his thunder. I can. posted by edbles at 6:31 AM on September 5, 2009
