Is it Caturday yet?

Caturday is an internet institution by now. Sources disagree on just what or when it is, but Cat macros appeal to something deep down inside of us. There are more caturday videos on youtube than you can shake a link at. If some folks had their way, every day would be Caturday. Others would like to see Caturday set ablaze.

Kind of pointless to have a cat thread on a site where you can't post images, isn't it?
posted by dortmunder at 6:22 AM on September 9, 2009

Did you really just link to a photo of a person burning a cat without a single warning?
posted by DU at 6:24 AM on September 9, 2009 [2 favorites]

Warning: Those last two links are pics of dead cats. NSFW or NSF anything. Should not have been included.

My dog is going to be so pissed off about this. I can't wait to get home to tell him.

FELINE PHYSICS

Law of Cat Inertia - A cat at rest will tend to remain at rest, unless acted upon by some outside force - such as the opening of cat food, or a nearby scurrying mouse.

Law of Cat Motion - A cat will move in a straight line, unless there is a really good reason to change direction.

Law of Cat Magnetism - All blue blazers and black sweaters attract cat hair in direct proportion to the darkness of the fabric.

Law of Cat Thermodynamics - Heat flows from a warmer to a cooler body, except in the case of a cat, in which case all heat flows to the cat.

Law of Cat Stretching - A cat will stretch to a distance proportional to the length of the nap just taken.

Law of Cat Sleeping - All cats must sleep with people whenever possible, in a position as uncomfortable for the people involved, and as comfortable as possible for the cat.

Law of Refrigerator Observation - If a cat watches a refrigerator long enough, someone will come along and take out something good to eat.

Law of Electric Blanket Attraction - Turn on an electric blanket and a cat will jump into bed at the speed of light.

Law of Random Comfort Seeking - A cat will always seek, and usually take over, the most comfortable spot in any given room.

Law of Bag/Box Occupancy - All bags and boxes in a given room must contain a cat within the earliest possible nanosecond.

Law of Cat Embarrassment - A cat's irritation rises in direct proportion to her embarrassment times the amount of human laughter.

Law of Cat Disinterest - A cat's interest level will vary in inverse proportion to the amount of effort a human expends in trying to interest him.

Law of Pill Rejection - Any pill given to a cat has the potential energy to reach escape velocity.

Law of Cat Composition - A cat is composed of Matter + Anti-Matter + It Doesn't Matter.

Sorry, yes. The last two links are "shock" links. I figured "set ablaze" would be enough warning. Guess not!

Flagged like crazy. Those last two links are awful and mean. Dude.

Dude.

BAD Eideteker. No treats for you.

All right, one of those links linked to Kitler, something new to me. Brain broke again, damn you internet.
posted by Iosephus at 6:33 AM on September 9, 2009

"The last two links are "shock" links"

Intentionally sticking them on the front page was probably a bit excessive, then, wouldn't you say? With freedom of speech comes the implicit responsibility of not being a total dick with it just because you can. The post would work perfectly well without the gratuitous blowtorch cat.

Alright then, mea culpa. Can we add a more clear warning to the FPP, mods? At least to the non-fake one?

what.the.fuck.

No. This is a bad thing, and you should feel bad for doing it. DELETE

The last link isn't just a dead cat; it's a series of images of a kitten being burned to death.

Just.. no.
posted by louche mustachio at 6:38 AM on September 9, 2009

Second to last link is a dead cat being cooked, for food. Yes, people eat cats. Last link is to a "how to troll cat lovers" joke site. No cats were actually harmed.

From the last link:

Posting Zippocat guarantees a 100% ban from wherever you post it.

You can't say you weren't warned, dude.

This would have been a fine post without the last two links. There's really no need for alternate points of view when those alternate points of view involve psychopathic cruelty, is there? Flagged as "fucking insensitive douchebag."
posted by seanmpuckett at 6:51 AM on September 9, 2009

It's not very often I post on the blue, but I have to ask: what exactly was it about the mefi userbase that made you think we would want to see images of cats being burned?

Jesus fuck.
posted by Solomon at 6:52 AM on September 9, 2009

No cats were actually harmed.

That's a cat being burned alive. That qualifies as "harm" in my book.

You could have posted those pics in a thread about animal abuse thread (maybe), but throwing them on the end of a caturday post for shock factor is just trolling. It's uncool and you are rightly being called on it. This isn't fucking 4chan.
posted by anti social order at 6:52 AM on September 9, 2009

But I didn't post Zippocat. I posted about Zippocat. I would be remiss if I didn't show both sides of the debate.

"That's a cat being burned alive. That qualifies as "harm" in my book."

Oh pls, it's fake.

You're not doing yourself any favors, Nate. Step away from the computer and think about what you dd.

Seriously Eid, it is really fucked up to link to pictures of cats on fire. Don't ever do that again.

Posting a link to ED in general needs a NSFW warning at a minimum in my opinion.

Eideteker — with all due respect, it probably is not fake. Actual videos have been posted of cats in carriers, set ablaze. With audio. The non-audio versions hit the gif portions of the 4chan. And recall the Glamorous Kitten Killer of Hangzhou.

Not everyone likes Caturday.

You just wanted to post zippocat and padded it out from there, right?
posted by CKmtl at 6:59 AM on September 9, 2009 [1 favorite]

"Not everyone likes Caturday."

I do believe I quite directly made that point. Well beyond my intentions, apparently.

From the Zippocat link: "This use of images is for true trolls who liberate the net from faggotry while getting kicks from animal lovers BAWWWing in pain while their eyes get raped."

CAN HAZ SOCIOPATHY?

I figured "set ablaze" would be enough warning.

Because everybody would be expected to interpret that literally? I for one did not.

I really hope my wife sees the email I sent warning her about this post before she sees the post itself.

This is totally a troll. Posting about cats on "A Day Without Cats" on a Wednesday. Hell no.

Flagged.

"Last link is to a "how to troll cat lovers" joke site. No cats were actually harmed."

You are either seriously trolling or you have absolutely no idea what ED or /b/ is. I'm with CKmtl; this is like capping off a prostate cancer post with goatse and trying to claim innocence.
