Kanye West takes microphone from VMA winner to diss her. Beyonce makes up for it.

Videos of the nominees. Beyonce was not a nominee for this category, although she did win Video of the Year.

Wow, I don't even like Taylor Swift (or Kanye for that matter) and I just felt so sorry for the poor girl.

But even so, I don't feel it's really worth an fpp. So someone is a dick at the VMAs. I've seen this at least 20 times before I came here, and I wouldn't be surprised if MTV set this up to make some headlines somewhere.

Though, I have to say, how the fuck could someone actually watch that Taylor Swift video without gouging their ears out after the first 30 seconds. Luckily I manages to click the close button at around the 25 second mark or I would have suffered permenant harm.

I come here not to defend Kanye West but to bury him. To be honest I think he's right. I think the stance he's taken against awards being for the most marketable artist as opposed to the most signifigant artist/video is a good one. I don't even want to watch that video because I know I'm going to see someone whose art I admire for its hard work and detail, embarass a young girl. Something simply gauche. Kanye has yet to learn that just because your right doesn't justify everything. Somethings are better left unsaid.

The video was a Cliché ridden mess. Why is MTV playing country music? And why do they have video awards when all they play is reality shows full of retards?

The Beyonce video is quite boring, except it's a lot of dancing in one take, which is kind of odd rare these days, except at points theres something kind of weird and a bit fakey looking about it like they maybe stiched it together from a lot of takes or manipulated or its all fake CGI or something, so I don't know.

But it's not the aural equivalent of sewage and, hey, who doesn't like hip wiggling?

Is Kanye's point that he thinks it should have won all of the categories or is he just a bit confused?

As far as I can tell "country music" is not country music - country music is Johnny Cash, whereas "country music" is just bilge.

Only slightly related to tonight's shenanigans, but...

The only time I hear music is when I'm at the gym or pool. Usually the verses get drowned out and all I catch are the refrains. And if you listen to just the refrain of You Belong With Me, it sounds a lot like a lesbian love song. She's signing about how she's a lonely geek, and here's this pretty cheerleader. And how she's the only one that understands her...

I kept telling my friends and co-workers about this catchy, edgy song I hear bits and pieces of. Well, one day I found the music video and boy was I disappointed. Instead of being punkish and alternative, it's one of the most overused teenage cliches ever.

Taylor Swift: you need to rewrite that song, now! Trust me, it's better the other way.

Ugh, fake controversy is fake.

After the Eminem/"Bruno" thing a few months ago, it's become increasingly apparent that Hollywood—which includes, at least peripherally and no doubt to the rest of the industry's shame and annoyance, some parts of the music business—is desperate to remain relevant and stay centered in the public's attention. I'm not sure exactly why this is; politics, perhaps? Or the economy making people less interested in following the minutia of some vapid starlet's wasted life? I can only guess. But the stunts are starting to reek of desperation.

I think the ladies of GoFugYourself can shed some light on this, via their live blog of the event:

5 p.m.: ...Lady Gaga emerges from her limo in a gold Phantom mask, giant hat, and feathered collar; the whole thing looks so heavy that she can barely turn from side to side. She's practically hoisted to her feet from the car. Pretty soon she's going to start arriving places via an elaborate system of pulleys and wires, a la Bruno, except with less man-sac.

5:05 p.m.: Dude, Lady Gaga arrived with KERMIT THE FROG. Does he know she wore Animal as a skirt? Wait... does he know she wore HIM as a shirt?

5:13 p.m.: Lady Gaga seriously can't move in this stupid outfit. I am so tired of her shtick. Kermit shows up to give her some press credentials and she kisses him. I wish the Muppets weren't being dragged into this. Somewhere on high, Jim Henson is all, "Girl, please. Miss Piggy would karate-chop her ass into next week, and then when next week gets here she'd kick it again."

Etcetera. I love it myself. Hopefully it will encourage more people to run around dressed like Muppets.
