Oh come on. Make a little effort already.

Oh, sad. He was so courageous and candid about his illness--I think he did a lot to put pancreatic cancer on people's radar in the US. My thoughts will be with his family and friends.

eyeballkid, no they didn't. This is the second single-link obit on Swayze that I've seen. I hope it's only the second one posted.

Swayze deserves better.

Mercury News vs The Beeb.

So, actually, worse.

Also, pretty lame obit post, fwiw. Man deserves better than a single MercNews link.

actually the grocery store tabloids won the "Swayze is dead" contest about a year ago...

this post is about as meaningful...

I'm thinking we should just stop talking about dead people for a while....

How about you complainers bring it to MetaTalk or STFU?

Rest in peace, Patrick.

Man. Can this year of death just end already?

A bunch of famous people are going to die next year, too. People die at about the same rate every year. Unless H1N1 turns out to be Captain Trips, the approximately same number of famous people are going to die next year as die this year.

Obviously, and thank you for sharing your great knowledge of Patrick Swayze. Your post is truly a summation of his life and career. I've gained a lot of knowledge about this actor/entertainer from your research and carefully considered post.

What a great way to honor him!

Well, here's the thread I was going to post:

with pancreatic cancer.

Premature rumors of Swayze's death have been circulating since a possibly doctored cover of the National Enquirer surfaced in April, in which photos supposedly depicting his dramatic weight loss startled former fans.

Swayze, perhaps best known for his movie roles in Dirty Dancing (in which his wife, Lisa Niemi, also appeared) and Ghost, had been been undergoing targeted radiotherapy, also known as Cyberknife, to combat the disease. Sadly, the cancer reportedly spread despite his treatment. Last Friday, the actor's brother flew in to "say good-bye".

At the time of his death, Swayze was working on the TV show The Beast.

He had the time of his life

up until the pancreatic cancer part, maybe? after that, not so much.
quoting a theme song is an annoying way to memorialize a dead celebrity. See, e.g., "RIP Bea Arthur - thank you for being a friend."

Good work Misha but ideally could use some more stuff like his early dancing background and Renegades and Red Dawn and all that.
posted by Senor Cardgage at 6:05 PM on September 14, 2009

Misha, srsly. Go make your 100% superior-to-this-rubbish post so this one can be deleted already.

I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've watched The Outsiders. That was my favorite movie when I was in middle school. Darry was the ultimate big brother to me. So sad to see Mr. Swayze go.

I was really hoping he'd live long enough to play Ted Haggard in a made for TV movie. Thanks for Ghost, anyway.

Red Webster: How long are you gonna be in town?
Dalton: Not very long.
Red Webster: That's what I said 25 years ago.
Dalton: Really? What happened?
Red Webster: I got married to an ugly woman. Don't ever do that. It just takes the energy right out of you. She left me, though. Found somebody even uglier than she was. That's life. Who can explain it?
