Nuts are we

After a career lasting almost four decades, Chas and Dave - the musical act who made a surprisingly long chart career out of naff reversionings of cockney pub songs, even playing Glastonbury in 2007 - have split. Please enjoy: Snooker Loopy. Gertcha. Rabbit. And for extra fun, the glitchcore remix of Snooker Loopy

They haven't split as such.. they've got old. And one of them (and I'll be damned if I ever knew which was Chas and which was Dave) has retired.

Despite valiant attempts by Vera Lynn, Mick Jagger, Tom Jones et al to show that pensionable age is no barrier to chart or concert success, it's no disgrace to bow out when you're long past your sixtieth birthday.

And for the record (from the third link), ""He hasn't hung up his bass for good and will certainly play with Chas again."

The postmodern ironic hipster in me is quietly pumping my fist in joy.

My Dad had a Chas and Dave mix tape that would be played endlessly over and over again every Xmas. This one always reminds me of drunken Xmas afternoons with all my old Cockney relatives singing along. It perfectly captures the sort of maudlin nostalgia that always seems to be so appreciated by them.

I find The Sideboard Song incredibly catchy, even if its generational clash seems quaint. (And let us not overlook the duo's sadly unacknowledged influence on Brummie rapper The Streets.)

I dunno about the music, but that snooker loopy video has an insane shot at 0:43.

Uh, the glitchcore remix is ... um ... well, that's the first I've heard of glitchcore. What's the point of it? If I may ask? It has no rhythm or melody or any other actual attributes of actual music, so ... ?

A better Chaz & Dave at Glasto link, from 2005. I am about 200 yards outside, which was as close as it was possible to get.

And yet it's still an improvement on Chas and Dave's stuff.

Also: someone was complaining about links to the Daily Mail on Metatalk the other day, but you had to go one better and link to The Sun?

WTF?

The demise of Chase and Dave was not a matter for the Financial Times.

Poor show on their part then, could have severe knock-on effects on the vital eels, pie, mash and liquor markets.

I am right up the front, because I am a ninja.

Best thing about that show as the way they handled the site-wide two-minutes-silence-for-global-poverty bullshit, by stopping for about two seconds.

Neatly combining these two things I saw Chas and Dave at Bang Face last year. They looked somewhat surprised at their ecstatic reception. Bloody brilliant.

All in all, I prefer Penis Von Lesbian's British working class singing....

"Reversionings" leapt off the page and almost killed me. What you're looking for is "versions".
