Thanks to Life. Lyrics by Violeta Parra. Late in life, with South America's military regimes consigned to the dustbin of history, Sosa remained relevant by tapping powerful, universal emotions, singing about stopping war and ending poverty, about finding love and losing loved ones. Argentine folk singer Mercedes Sosa, the internationally acclaimed "voice of the voiceless ones" whose criticism of South America's military regimes led to her exile to Europe, died Sunday in Buenos Aires. She was 74.
