John Brown, terrorist or revolutionary?

Harper's Ferry, 150 years ago today, John Brown and 21 of his followers seized a federal arsenal with the intention of arming slaves to fight for their freedom. Two days later then-Lt. Col. Robert E. Lee and his men recaptured the arsenal and took Brown and his followers into custody. Brown was subsequently hanged.
Historians continue to debate Brown's motivations.
