I like the concept. And the banjolele sounds better in this context than I would have expected. But it made me think that "Fight For Your Right To Party" was only significant in the commercial history of hip-hop - not its artistic history.

I have a friend who can bring me instant delight by reciting the Humpty Dance in an upper-class british twit accent. She's been doing this since undergrad and indeed to this day, I am spunky. And I do rather llike my oatmeal lumpy. I am sick with this, straight gangster chap. Mr. B seems to be well within the sartorial guidlelines of The Chap magazine, with ascot and pipe, but the mustacio, if authentic, is the real coup de grace. I wonder if his inspiration was from Issue 45 of said magazine, Britches and Hoes.

Fresh Prince? (Not to mention every frat-rap group eva.) Plus/even De La Soul?! Musically, with regards to genre-breaking, FFYR was more generally influential world over than (specifically) Run-DMC's "Rock Box". There would be no Rage Against The Machine without Licensed To Ill. And everyone I know older than 30 who 1) has ever recorded a entire hip-hop album, or 2) listens to hip-hop knows Licensed To Ill inside and out. Chickity check yourself.

humannaire, I agree it's a great album, and it's too bad the Beastie Boys have completelt disowned it. They seem really embarrassed that they ever made fun music, or had a sense of humor about anything. There would be no Rage Against The Machine without Licensed To Ill. True, but it's a great album anyway.

I wanted to like this a lot. I mean, the instrumentation was great -- the banjolele is the perfect instrument for this. But I feel like Mr B himself is just sort of trying way too hard. It went past the point of funny for me.
