Cheney refuses GAO request for Information Look, I think both sides of the aisle are a bunch of wankers, but what do you think the reaction would have been from Republicans if this had come out of the Clinton White House? (Especially if it had been Hillary making the refusal, instead of Cheney.)

A former energy executive meets with current energy executives and then refuses to discuss the matter. Sounds like a business meeting.

Not only would the reaction have been more vocal in the Clinton era, we know it would have been different- because it was. Although to be fair, the story's only a couple of days old, and we have yet to see how both "the people" and "the pundits" will react. Regardless, this is quite similar to the PR blunder at the beginning of the Clinton administration that Hillary was holding "closed-door" meetings on health care reform. This is the same thing, at least in appearance.

And this lawyerly claim from the White House that they are legally shielded from having to reveal who was there and what was said is not exactly P.R. genius. I'd hazard that the public at large, regardless of political affiliation, recognizes that nothing good usually comes from closed-door meetings of campaign donors and unnamed corporate interests discussing public policy that affects the whole country.

Those are meaningless words. Politics has been politics for years and years. Usually it's the giver of the shit that wants to heal, after they move in to the receiver of the shit position. Keep up with the hell until the dirty corporate money is purged. I shall commence holding my breath for that day.

You've got it all wrong. When Hillary and Bill do it, it's "obstruction of justice". When it's BigTime, it's "we'll do things on our own schedule".

you'd think they'd release the names and be open about the meetings to avoid the appearance of impropriety. when people already don't trust you, why give them more reason to distrust you?
