****UPDATE: Rumors are beginning to swirl that this story is some kind of elaborate hoax involving a Facebook page and several months' worth of correspondence from someone claiming to be Chuck. We are looking into it.****

Just heard about this myself. Sad.

Monitor Mix has few good vids of him at his best

Damn, hope it is a rumor-- the guy's a great drummer. I remember seeing him with DOA, he was like a force of nature.

Hmm, if you look at the last video on the Monitor Mix link, it's got a good running check on whether this is a hoax or not...

More on the possiblity of this being a hoax here.

For what it's worth, from one of the first link's comments:

More importantly, he started out in the seminal Canadian hardcore band DOA

DOA are awesome. Don't the admins here frown on posting death rumors? Has this had any mainstream press at all?
posted by Antidisestablishmentarianist at 2:57 PM on October 29, 2009

NPR has him listed in the non hoax category

NPR links to the same source, that isn't new information.

I hope this is a hoax. He was an incredible drummer. I bought some t-shirts from him back in the day when he was silk screening.

Circle Jerks on Rock Palace.

From infinitywaltz's link:
All I can tell you is I've been communicating with two people since May I was always 99.999% sure were THE Chuck Biscuits and his wife from e-mail addresses bearing their names. They never asked me to wire money to a Nigerian prince or adopt their child, so I took it all at face value.
IIRC, the guy who pretended to be Peter Criss from KISS wasn't in it for the money, either. Some dudes just want to live the fantasy, and a "death" is a convenient way out of that.

If not, though: .

Bummer. God, I loved the Circle Jerks back then.

Apparently, Otis Link is refuting the rumour and saying he has been in contact with Biscuits. You can't read Otis' Facebook page unless you are cool enough, but here is a re-post.

Saw him in 1983 w/the CJ's. Great drummer.

The repost still requires you to have a Facebook account.
posted by infinitywaltz at 3:32 PM on October 29, 2009

Fair enough. The Facebook account is Tim Napalm Stegall, so should be credible. Basically Chuck's brother has spoken with Chuck on the phone today (so the throat cancer thing is probably bunk as well), and Otis also received an email from him last night at 11:55.
" Otis Link CHUCK BISCUITS!!!! Not True to me until the dead guy sings!
I cant keep up with the calls and the emails, here is what I know.
Chuck sent me an email last night at 11:55 DEAD MEN DONT EMAIL!
I talked with Bob, chucks brother today, Chucks family has not been notified of a death. Normally they are told if their brother or son is sick or dead.
A rumor started in august about cancer, Chuck was fine then too."
" Otis Link CHUCK BISCUITS still aint dead! just smells funny.
How awesome is it that the media does not care about confirming anything any more. No one ever contacted chuck or his family to see if he was dead. His brother just talked with him at work today."

For those without FB accounts, a copy of the text, posted by Tim Napalm Stegall:

Okay, guys. I take this as a solid refutation of the Chuck Biscuits death rumors. Otis Link was business partners with Chuck Biscuits back in the '80s, in a concern called Otis 'n' Biscuits. Here's what Otis just posted on his Facebook page:
" Otis Link Heard from CHUCK BISCUITS today at 1:51 he says "This is fucking retarded" no you cant have his email."

This, after Otis' more detailed earlier post:

" Otis Link CHUCK BISCUITS!!!! Not True to me until the dead guy sings!
I cant keep up with the calls and the emails, here is what I know.
Chuck sent me an email last night at 11:55 DEAD MEN DONT EMAIL!

News reporters at wire services, please note: THE INTERNET IS NOT A RELIABLE SOURCE! As Blabbermouth.net put it in one of their updates, "Rumors are beginning to swirl that this story is some kind of elaborate hoax involving a Facebook page and several months' worth of correspondence from someone claiming to be Chuck."

*shakes head* Thank Jah that Chuck still lives. And thanks, Otis, for clearing it up.

UPDATE: Okay, y'all. Dig Otis' latest post:

" Otis Link CHUCK BISCUITS still aint dead! just smells funny.
How awesome is it that the media does not care about confirming anything any more. No one ever contacted chuck or his family to see if he was dead. His brother just talked with him at work today."

Re-read that: BOB MONTGOMERY, CHUCK'S BROTHER, SPOKE WITH HIM ON THE PHONE. TODAY. AT HIS WORKPLACE. Now, let's see the media rush to correct this *guffaw!*....

at some point or other, someone needs to bring up the sad and cursed history (with proper annotation) of DOA drummers; not since Spinal Tap ...

Which is not to compare DOA to Spinal Tap in any way ...

MMM, Hardcore '81.

Hey, DOA peeps, there's a long-standing she's-dead-no-she's-not rumor concerning the talented cartoonist who drew that iconic record cover (and the CJ's Skank Kid), Shawn Kerri.

I dub these rumours the curse of the toe tag. Persons unfamiliar with the cover of said EP may wish to consult the googletron.

Saw Chuck live several times back in 80-81 with DOA. Was just the other day checking out bands from that era on YT, which led me to the the Kevin Seconds podcast, in which he related losing his reading glasses and wanting dentures. Back in the early 80's we were all pretty certain we'd never get old.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to find a shelter for Peter Criss.
