"Christian" doesn't mean what you think it means

Does the Catholic Church support blackmail? The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington said Wednesday that it will be unable to continue the social service programs it runs for the District if the city doesn't change a proposed same-sex marriage law, a threat that could affect tens of thousands of people the church helps with adoption, homelessness and health care. Is this the kind of overtly political action that should justify removal of the church's tax exemption?

Could you frame this post in a slightly more slanted way? I'm not sure what your opinion is.

There's a decent FPP here (even if it is a bit newsfiltery) but this is framed all wrong.

All the more interesting when you consider that the Mormon Church has backed a gay rights statute in Utah.

Can I rephrase the question? Why (does it seem like) social services in the US is something that various churches and help orgs do, rather than the state?

all's fair in love and war. and this is war.

Obviously, if the Church doesn't get its way here, the Christian thing to do is to abandon the needy and go back to Rome.

The Catholic church is expressly against all things being fair in love.

The post is flawed. As stated, this could be an interesting discussion, but let's not start it this way...

I vote for a delete and more balanced repost of this topic.

I'm sorry if you took this as slanted. To keep from getting off on the wrong foot: This is the latest example of a tax-exempt church engaging in overtly political behavior. They are specifically forbidden to do this and keep their tax-exempt status. Should pulling their tax-exempt status be considered?

Legitimate question. No offense intended.
