I know that ubiquitous upskirt camera angles are standard for the genre, but it is really distracting and creepy.

Regardless, hats off to pulling of an animation as a one person project.

I've had a recurring dream for most of my adult life that closely resembles (though not as comically) the lonnnnnnnnng flight of stairs sequence. I sort of jump from the top stair and it's a strange, floaty free-fall for what seems like a mile. I, too, always land intact, though there's never a freaked-out cat on the landing, sadly.

Pardon my ignorance, but is it very odd to see a short like this made by a single animator?

Pardon my ignorance, but is it very odd to see a short like this made by a single animator?

It is not very odd, but it's rare outside of being done for, say an art school degree or being specifically paid for it. I used to attend animation festivals in the 1990s and you'd have stuff done by "one person" but there'd usually be a few people attached to it helping them do work. am not 100% convinced that isn't the case here, too.

(When I did a short animated film myself, even I had what would be called a "crew" of 3 helping with cutouts and photography, and the music was done by another 4-5 people.)

That was pretty impressive without being overly derivative for an anime.

However, I am officially tired of schoolgirls' panties.

Hm! Pretty cool; I really had no idea. I see credits, but I guess I just never really gave it much thought. I like animation, but I don't spend nearly enough time seeking it out. I will now. Thanks for this, flatluigi.

And jscott, that was great! Loved the song.

Wusses. (NSFW)

You're gonna miss out on one of the funniest/wrongest/moe-est animes of the year with that kinda attitude. KissxSis is a bit like watching Doctor Tran being victimized by hot highschool girls. Sure, it's wrong... but it's also pretty charming.

Let us have us refleshing young memories of frying young panties!

I do not like anime much, but I looked at the film twice. Elliot (8yrs) is sitting on the same table as me, watching all the top gear episodes he can find on you tube. Petrol head! All of the sudden I hear him laughing, then so hard his orange came out of his nose and he almost wet himself. Again! He said. So we watched again and the tears of laughter rolled over his cheeks. I did not like it very much, but this film and this post made my day!

*nods*

I feel the same way about Canadians, their funny accents, and their "a-boots".

Where would America be if others started writing entire cultures off due to superficially annoying eccentricities?

(Of course, a good argument can be made that *our* eccentricities aren't merely superficial, but are, in fact, overtly and willfully annoying. No wonder we hate the French... they're a lot like us, in that respect!)

Echoing heyho, this is also really similar to recurring dreams/nightmares I have. Basically the same thing; I trip or fall and the land is so steep I just keep going, exactly how it happened in the short. Odd.

"I got the impression (wrongly?) that it was safely constrained within anime."

Depends on who the film is made for, really. Lots of their films are based on manga, and even several of those which aren't based on manga or anime can contain a healthy amount of squealing.

Maybe you should try something like Planetes or Wolf's Reign. Very low squealing quotient... although I would recommend the Japanese versions, with subtitles, as oftentimes it's the American voice actors who are more likely to screw things up.
