Oh, Tongues Untied, how you moved me.

I wrote my college senior thesis on homosexuality in the black community (I think I had myself almost convinced I was a gay black man at that time - I was a straight female teenager).

I loved loved loved that movie when I saw it, eek, a zillion years ago at this point. I'd completely forgotten about the snap diva segment until just now. Thanks for posting!

i never thought i would read a sentence like this:

pr0n art? a doc about being black and gay is pr0n art? wow, how far out do you have to be to think like this?

To be fair, the film does contain male frontal nudity and gay men kissing. I'm not saying that alone makes it "pornographic art", but it's not as if Pat Buchanan's claims are completely baseless. (At least in this one particular case. I still think he's nuts.)

I first saw Tongues Untied at a LGBTA meeting at Western Washington University. It was a powerful and very moving film, and I'd like to see it again.

In some circles, anything about teh gay (that doesn't advocate killing or praying for change) is automatically pr0n.

It's a fantastic film. And we could really still use Marlon Riggs these days.

well huhn. I had heard of Tongues Untied, but always thought it was going to be another dry & dreary multi-culti exercise. Guess I was wrong. Just added it to my Netflix queue - so thanks for the link!
