Lady GaGa's video for the single Bad Romance came out last week to generally positive reviews. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the video features gratuitous product placement, quite a few costume changes, and a healthy sampling of Alexander McQueen's spring line.
Amidst all the hubbub, one blogger wonders: what about the occult meanings of the video?

other occult concerns from Vigilant Citizen:
- Is Lady GaGa an Illuminati Puppet? (parts 1 (previously on MeFi) and 2)
- Beyonce to Sasha Fierce: an Occult Rebirth
- Rihanna's Disturbia: A Song About Being Possessed by Evil"

Yep, double. At least, all of this is covered in the comments there.

Hard to imagine that she didn't fit in well at NYU.

That video is worth the post I think. Wouldn't have seen it otherwise.
Silliness with a big budget.
Rah-rah-ah-ah-ah-ah!

Ga-ga-oh-la-la!

Indeed.

After watching the American Music Awards last night, I still can't understand Lady Gaga's freakish popularity. I'm going with "mass hypnosis."

Speaking as someone whose entire knowledge of Lady Gaga comes from about 15 minutes of Gaga-related Metafilter, I say: she is the new Madonna.

Much as we love Lady Gaga--whose reign is kind and compassionate--this is a duplicate post.

Oh, I just realized the video starts with the final fugue in book 1 of Bach's Well Tempered Clavier (b minor). I was just going to go leave the computer and practice it on my electronic piano...

When Lady Gaga fades from the spotlight and does small acoustic shows she is going to be amazing.

I wish there were some arcane symbol expert who wasn't batshitinsane to decode Gaga's videos, Barack Obama, and international airports.

But it turns out symbology is not a real academic field, so we're stuck with cranks.

Gaga has so far and away the smartest music/videos/stage performances out there right now. It's sort of a baffling miracle that she exists. I mean, people make comparisons between her and Madonna — and that's fair, they're both about crafting art using fame itself as their instrument/medium — but, like, Madonna was sort of hindered by the fact that her music has always sucked and her commentary has never been particularly coherent. Someone on a previous thread compared her to Bowie, which I think is more appropriate...

This post is somewhat of a double but it does have some new info. All I know is, I've been hooked on Lady GaGa fever since the first post by Artw. Most of the lyrics are silly but she knows how to write a hook and knows how to make a pop song that people want to listen to over and over again. She's no Madonna, but IMO much better than Madonna. I'm very impressed by this pop queen and I'm a 42 year old male that generally loathes pop music.

Just saw her on Leno. The Nosferatu dance was awesome. I hope she sticks around because pop music has been pretty boring until she showed up.

Jay: "What is the worst rumor that's been spread about you?"
Lady Gaga: "That I'm from Yonkers ..."

Madonna was sort of hindered by the fact that her music has always sucked

Let's not get carried away here. Madonna's laid some eggs, but she's also been pretty amazing. Interestingly, it didn't occur to me until Gaga mentioned it to Jay that she and Madonna both have Catholic-Italian parochial backgrounds. Yay, nuns!

I have gone nuts for Lady Gaga. I love when I hear people say her music is boring. Not that I agree, but that's kind of the point. How else does one get to be a household name without loss of identity? An actor, a writer, a painter -- none of them get the same sheer amount of time with people than someone on pop radio. It's brilliant, is what it is.

Lady Gaga is for apopheniacs who miss Madonna.

Lady Gaga's video is a creature from a lower quartile. One where the reptiles have monetized irony and "cultural commentary".
