Software turns cheap webcam into instant 3D scanner

ProFORMA a software from Qi Pan from University of Cambridge can create 3D models without expensive hardware. It works like this: the user rotates the object in front of a stationary camera, a partial model is reconstructed and displayed to the user to assist view planning. The model is also used by the system to robustly track the pose of the object.

This post was deleted for the following reason: upon reflection.... linking to your website with the same link as the one you just posted to on MeFi makes it seem scarily like a self-link, might be good not to do that in the future. -- jessamyn

Searching desperately for the download link... :(

@boo_radley: Why do you think so?

it would appear you think this is Twitter - where it's okay to self-link.

You've violated the self-linking agreement of metafilter, your post will soon be deleted and your account disabled.

Oh. I see. Well, at least you wasted your $5 on posting something that's kinda cool, I guess.

@Jimbob: The info is from Qi Pan's user page http://mi.eng.cam.ac.uk/~qp202/:
In a few months time when code porting (to new library versions) is complete, a Linux-based demo of ProFORMA should be released. This will be followed by a windows based demo.

What is the oh-so-obvious self-link? That weinzierl's website link has the same link as here?

How do people know it's a self link? the 3/1 ratio peaked my curiosity at first, but I didn't bother doing any digging

because he's ignored everyone who's called it a self-link?

I don't know Qi Pan, just found the link via basicthinking (which I am not affiliated and who's authors I don't know) and thougt it was kinda cool.
