Why not? Is there some law that you need 3 Ph.D.'s to float about in space? If the economics of the situation works out and it can be done safely then it can only help kill the elitist attitude towards space exploration and actually make science interesting.

Permanent moon colony here I come!

Only one person will be chosen in the finals: a single human being who represents all the best qualities the species has to offer and all of the necessary scientific and technical prerequisites for the flight into space.
Geez, why aren't people like that already *in* NASA?
Oh yeah. Money. Sigh...
