The "Bride and Groom" appear to be Chinese opera performers. But the Tengu are awesome.

Tengu are pretty awesome. One of them has even made her way into at least one video game, playing as - what else? - a journalist.

These are awesome and I like the selections you pulled out, vronsky.

One other favorite: prisoners. Never ran into the word cangue before ... or saw one. I don't think I'll be forgetting it.

vronsky, I was spending time on the same blog - it's pretty interesting indeed! It hasn't been updated since July - I am hoping the site is just on hiatus.

In that site's blogroll, there is a link to Mexican Pictures which is a great site that has appeared on the blue a few times - it's well worth exploring the projects page.
