Sometimes we forget the depth of meaning of the word "holy"....perhaps, given the season, this may help....

what makes "holy" an endearing and everlasting piece of language is not it's "depth of meaning" but it's complete lack of meaning. it is basically just a drumroll for the smoke or shit or fuck that comes after it.

Once upon a time, even in America, calling absurd things holy, and other such irreligion, was considered much more offensive than scatology (vis. the English use of "bloody", from "blood of christ" as a terribly offensive turn of phrase).

You have to admire Burt Ward. It took a high level of professionalism to speak those lines with a straight face, wearing a saffron yellow cape and tights, with your oversized schlong wedged back between your legs to avoid having a large bulging outline.
