you don't post boob-shaking gifs on metafilter, and we don't go and post the goldberg variations on 4chan, ok? posted by ts;dr at 5:13 PM on December 29, 2009 [14 favorites]

wow.. it's neverending, arbitrary, inane, disposable, banal, a cheap thrill, quickly moving, mesmerizing, addictive, highly reliant on bricolage -- it sums up the internet. this is what i call art. posted by Menomena at 5:48 PM on December 29, 2009 [8 favorites]

I've been downloading Animated GIFs for a good year or so from a feed that finds the most marked/credited delicious bookmarks. At some point I'll dump that thing out. posted by jscott at 6:31 PM on December 29, 2009
This is exactly like Idiocracy and BTTF 2 thought the future of TV would be. A bunch of amusing random movement along with the occasional comely well endowed woman jiggling her breasts.
I'm most ashamed to admit that while both movies were acting like that would be a bad form of media and an amplified version of the worst on TV today, I kind of like it in this format. Once you're bored, just stop scrolling down.
Granted, I also liked YTMND in high school, which is kind of exactly that, plus a cutesy music loop. Maybe I'm a low brow HURF DURF TV WATCHER trapped in a mid to high-brow nerd's brain. posted by mccarty.tim at 6:40 PM on December 29, 2009
There's a lot of benchmarks these days for browser speed, but I think we need to test browser endurance. This site is most definitely the perfect one for that test.
I'm in Chrome for Mac, and I'm about two pages below the one where the Smurf is breastfeeding from a lady. I guess that's impressive, but I guess I need to compare it to others, first. posted by mccarty.tim at 7:07 PM on December 29, 2009
I kept scrolling until I got a 'low memory error'. Not sure if the problem is a fault with Firefox, or that I find animated GIFs mesmerizing. posted by AzraelBrown at 8:15 PM on December 29, 2009

Seeing things I recognize and like in here redeemed this a little bit, because it made me forget about the big awful page of GIFs and remember things I like. So thanks, I guess? posted by aubilenon at 11:07 PM on December 29, 2009

then I had a seizure
With any luck, that seizure shook loose whatever was in your brain that was preventing you from simultaneously hating it and finding it genius with no feeling of contradiction. posted by Burhanistan at 10:03 PM on December 30, 2009
Splunge, you can DO THINGS while you're on salvia? You're doing it wrong. posted by tehloki at 4:01 AM on December 31, 2009
Well actually I guess anybody can do things if flopping around on the floor and yelling counts as a thing. What I meant is closer to "you can UNDERSTAND REALITY on salvia?" Looking at a gif is pretty hard when you can't see posted by tehloki at 4:02 AM on December 31, 2009
Splunge, you can DO THINGS while you're on salvia? You're doing it wrong.
Nope. I was just saying that it looked a lot like some of the experiences that I had whilst doing salvia.
PS I don't suggest that anyone do salvia. It's a strong chemical. OTOH it's legal, now. YMMV Do not Taunt Happy Fun Ball! posted by Splunge at 12:26 AM on January 1, 2010
