Lady Gaga Barbies.

Lady Gaga Barbies. What it says on the label. (Single-link Flickr post.)

It's a single link, but oh what a link. Given our shared Gaga obsession, I figured Metafilter needed to see it. He even made tiny versions of her wackity-ass hoof shoes out of clay.

Also, if you didn't hear, she was just named the new creative director of Polaroid: her announcement.

If I bought any of these dolls for my nieces, I'd probably get a shunning from the rest of my family. Might be worth a try.

The Hello Kitty plush dress is so not a good look on Ken.

The photography is killing me. This is an oddly fascinating collection of photos. Weird. I love it.

Ken is not working that look hard enough, in my opinion.

I'm already at too much of a loss to explain either Barbies or Lady Gaga individually. This is one of those things that I can't even believe is a thing.

I initially read this as Lady Gaga Babies. I was afraid to click, for feer of pacifiers with sparklers on them, or something.

I think she's awesome.

I initially read this as Lady Gaga Babies.

So did I. I'm so relieved.

This one frightens me because it suggests actual non-Barbie Lady Gaga wore a Hello Kitty plush dress and I'm not sure I wanted to know that.

I love how he's not even selling them. He has posted directions and he tells people to do it themselves because it'll be more fun.

I remember the occasion when I first wondered, "Who is this Lady Gaga that keeps getting mentioned?"

I knew I could find out in two seconds by going to Wikipedia. But I made a conscious decision not to. Pop culture could go on without me.

As her star apparently continued to rise, I felt my ignorance on the subject growing burdensome. But I still refused to Wiki. I felt like a beleaguered Seuss character: I am not interested in any Gaga, thank you!

Does Lady Gaga Barbie mean that it's time for me to abandon the boycott? I mean, is she that culturally important now?

Hey Joe, forget about culture for a bit. You might enjoy Lady Gaga on her own merits. Eat the green eggs and ham.

jessamyn, until I looked at it closely I didn't realize that second photo in the comments was her!

Thirded, but I'm a bit let down it wasn't. "Lady Gaga Babies" sounds like an entry in Look At This Fucking Idea For A Blog-To-Book Deal.

Metafilter has a 'shared Gaga obsession'??!!??!? i *have* been away for a long time, methinks.

/wanders away to contemplate whether i still belong here
/hey, look! there's that slice of pizza i was looking for last night, right there in my navel!

There's not enough shiny stuff on those dolls for them to even be close to Lady Gaga.

I emailed this link to a friend of mine who's a Lady Gaga fan and also a fan of Tonner dolls (particularly, she's waiting for the Doctor Who figures). She emailed back to say Tonner has just polled their mailing list to see if there's a market for Lady Gaga dolls. I'm sure they won't be as fun as these even if there is enough shiny stuff.

And if you want your Gaga dollies without giving your kids poor body image, Etsy has you covered.

CitizenD, it's not so much that we love her. We just needed something to balance out the Palin hate.

But yeah, we sincerely love her, too.

How much would it cost to slip a Mefi account into one of those celebrity goody bags they give out at the Grammies? You know, aside from the $5 to make the account?

Then you probably don't want to click on this link which shows Lady Gaga wearing a Kermit the Frog dress.

I'm tired of seeing the tabloids be the ones to report on Lady Gaga's clothes. I want some real beanplaters in the paparazzi. People who appreciate the frog dress on a deeper level than TMZ.

In short, we need a WatchMe section, ASAP.

I love this. That kermit dress replication took some dang talent!
posted by moons in june at 2:11 PM on January 9, 2010

Honestly all I get from looking at these is that Lady Gaga actually doesn't look anything like Barbie. Which is sort of her whole point, in a roundabout way -- though I'm sure she'd appreciate the effort that went into this.

I adore Lady Gaga. She got money and fame by parodying our desire for both, and it seems to no higher or lower purpose than to show people a good time. She has reinvigorated her industry even as she has had to fight it to maintain some control, and as far as I can tell she has done it without having to dump on or disparage anyone. But on the basis of the music alone, she makes me smile inside.

I really didn't get the Kermit the Frog dress, until I found out it was meant as commentary on the use of fur in fashion. As stupid as this may sound, her comments on the dress was what made me respect her as more than a pop-culture chameleon.

RE: the Kermit dress: If you can know about this and not love Lady Gaga then I just don't understand you. Here we have a pop star that does media appearances in a DRESS MADE OUT OF KERMITS as a commentary on fur, and you don't think that's awesome? THEN WHAT IS?!?
posted by DecemberBoy at 7:46 PM on January 9, 2010 [3 favorites]

Love it! There is a bubble dress near the end of the series but it's in the comments, not part of the main pictures. It appears to be made of actual bubbles.

wow, I hadn't seen that X's on the nipples outfit before. definitely not a good look for her

Oh hey, I posted this entire thing as a comment in the last Lady Gaga thread.

I guess that doesn't technically make it a double?
posted by Unicorn on the cob at 10:27 AM on January 10, 2010

Unicorn: I think it's okay to expand a comment into a thread unless there's an active thread elsewhere on said subject.

OH WAIT, THERE IS!

J/K, Lady Gaga's actually a deep enough topic that it seems to me we can have one thread on her career and one thread on her fashion simultaneously. Also, I'm not trying to advertise my own, much weaker, thread.
