Badder Romance

If, like me, you found Lady Gaga's Bad Romance video strangely addictive, you'll appreciate her fans' Badder Romance. Which is exactly the same, only... badder.

This looks like sooooo much fun to make, although not quite as much fun to watch.

The dancing was actually reasonably well done.

Here's one of the cutest homemade music videos I've ever seen, a video for the Moxy Fruvous song "Green Eggs and Ham", as made by two teenaged sisters in their bedroom.

I read that initially as "Bladder Romance", which brings not so pleasant images to mind.

More ridiculous Gaga-ish stuff: Rad Bromance, a parody of sorts.

Badder? come on, even Weird Al knew to parody MJ's "Bad" album as "Even Worse"

I read that initially as "Black Adder Romance", which brings images of a bearded Queen of Spain to mind.

Er, Blackadder.

I actually kind of loved it. It's a bit disconcerting if you've seen the original a million times, because they did such a careful job of reproducing each shot and dance move.

Gaga herself linked this one her Facebook page. I thought that was cool.

The video looks like tons of fun.

they did such a careful job of reproducing each shot and dance move.

And all the little finger movements.

And I love that every gaga-self was played by a different person, just like in the real video.

My favorite part is that I heard about it on Lady GaGa's twitter feed (and I guess it's on Facebook as well) before seeing on MetaFilter. I wonder what it feels like to know that the pop star you're imitating has actually watched your video?

My favorite part is that they didn't clean their room.

I was wondering if they were aware of how much the bedroom really captures the industrial feel of the original. And I don't mean that in a flattering way.

It underscores the fact that Lady Gaga is not a very good dancer, so her moves are very simple, not requiring much in the way of grace or fluidity.

There was a "Batman is Confused" The Dark Night parody FPP not long ago on Metafilter. It was very good. Garnered a lot of comments.

The creator also had a link to a parody of this video clip.

I'm about to march out the door - apologies if this has been mentioned. A cursory glance at the comments so far says "no."

What?? They only barely approximate the moves in this video. They're just having fun with it so there's no reason to harp on their flaws, but basically their dancing sucks by any professional standards. Saying it's a comment on what Gaga does is just ridiculous.

Watching the videos in comparison is great. Good use of props! (Fireplace, beanie babies, skeleton-thing.)

What?? They only barely approximate the moves in this video.

And thereby show how easy it is to approximate Gaga's moves, which have been designed by choreographers to be easy, because Gaga isn't a good dancer.

Go try to do an impression of Michael Jackson, you'll see how good a dancer he was. Hell, Britney Spears is 10 times the dancer Gaga is.

That said, Gaga is a million times the musician that Britney is ...

I only got 42 seconds into the fan version, but this was my first introduction to the Gaga video, and ... I don't know what to say. It's like a bunch of Stargate SG-1 cosplayers got together and did an erotic Goa'uld fetish porn video.

Love the Gaga, already saw this video on facebook and wasn't too impressed -- but! -- watching the Youtube Doubler'd version made me realize the extent to which, almost shot-by-shot, they recreated the original video.

Okay, okay -- I had fun.

This was not only awesome, but makes me jealous of the kids of today. In my day we did stuff like this but without the benefit of things like cameras or an expected audience, not to mention the even remotest chance that any of the castmembers of Grease 2 would one day see and approve of our elaborate backyard recreation of "Who's That Guy"

The homespun version of bullet time swarovski crystals was just brilliant.

Also, Lady Gaga makes me realise how much I miss Leigh Bowery. Is his influence on her direct, or via Gareth Pugh?

This was great, although I was really scared there would be teenagers in lingerie.

On a side note, I found out this weekend that both my mom and my husband have heard of Gaga. I wasn't expecting that.

On another side note, she was in Chicago this weekend (Gaga, not my mother) and I'm crushed that I wasn't able to see her.

I went to college for several years to learn how to do (with heavy cameras and giant, expensive machines) what these kids can do in a weekend with stuff from Best Buy.

It's really cute, and those kids are awesome, but I kind of want to go somewhere dark to drink and cry now.

Thank god for the internet, because it would be a damn shame if another generation of teenagers' reenactments of their favorite popular songs went unrecorded and forgotten in the annals of time.

Lady Gaga's tweeted this.

It showed up roughly around the same time on Mefi. THIS MEANS SHE'S A MEFITE! DELURK! ONE OF US!

On further inspection, Gaga tweeted it before Mefi posted it. BUT I KNOW SHE LURKS AMONG US!

Can we please take the talk of the moratorium outside to MetaTalk? As an irrational fan, I've been in Disco Heaven, what with at least one Gaga post per day these past three or so days.

I don't know what MetaFilter should be, but I do know what I like. AND THAT'S MASONIC INDOCTRINATION FROM A TALENTED 23 YEAR OLD!

Also, I'm itching for a fight, AND MY LAPTOP'S TOO LAGGY TO PLAY TF2 WITH THE MEFIGHTS!

I love the dirty room, beanie baby, and how they look really, really tired towards the end.

This song is infecting my mind. I can't stop listening to it. Or watching any video that contains it. I think it contains aural heroin. I wanted to turn this off because "ok, a bunch of college kids who couldn't even clean their dorm before making this video" - and then. The bubble wrap dress.

Well done, humanities undergrads. Well done.

(It would be remiss of me not to mention that my secret boyfriend Michael DiMartino recently posted an ASL "cover" of this song. By which I mean, it's an ASL interpretation and his own choreography, not a remake of the original video.)

Wait, Gaga is only 23?!

I'm..not sure how to feel about that, but 'depressed about the state of my own life and proximity to my goals' is featuring prominently.

And just because I can't get over it, here's a *winning* comment from one of Michael DiMartino's ASL pop videos:

"Is he deaf?He dances with finger language.
But certainly,He's lovely gay."

Is that a Zen koan? Is it a haiku? Is it the product of GoogleTranslate? I will never know, but I like it better that way.
