Making The Shining "Stanley Kubrick allowed his then-17-year-old daughter, Vivian, to make a documentary about the production of THE SHINING. Created originally for the British television show BBC Arena, the documentary offers rare insight into the shooting process of a Kubrick film." (BBC Arena, 35mins.)

I can't find a reference, but I recall reading that Vivian was absorbed completely into the Church of Scientology at some point and that no one in the family had seen her in years at the time of her father's death.

this is the documentary that showed the abuse kubrick heaped on shelley duvall during filming, right?

I vaguely remember reading that somewhere too anazgnos.

I was just thinking that this was probably the last interesting performance Jack ever gave in a film. Much like Blade Runner was the last time Harrison Ford was even remotely cool (except for maybe Witness and Frantic).

If you see either of their names involved with a movie now it might as well be a sign in large letters saying AVOID THIS MOVIE AT ALL COST!

I'll never get why Stephen King objects so strongly to "The Shining" a great film and yet heartily endorses the lionshare of crap most of his books become on the screen.

Wow man, like, The Shining, man. It's like, literally the scariest movie ever, man. Some people find the austerity of it to be, like, a flaw, man, while others are all like, "hey man, that is, like, the mood of the piece, you dig? That's like why it's so scary, man."

This is the best use yet of the "redrum" tag.

Jack Nicholson in grim 1980s British movie dressing room and its bathroom, that's my memory of this. How it must have seemed cold and almost East German after California. But Kubrick would only film in the UK, plus it was cheaper.

Enough with "The Shining" already. Where's the blu-ray "Barry Lyndon"?

What I could never understand about the Shining is why this four star resort hotel didn't exploit the natural resources for winter sports enthusiasts.

Tax reasons, I suppose.
