Silly Putty turns 50. I suspect I'm older than most of you, and I grew up with Silly Putty, "The toy with only one moving part".

You may be older than me, but that just means that Silly Putty had excellent distribution by the time I was a kid. My first disposable income (age 4-5ish) was split between silly putty and those water-pressure rockets that were in the same aisle at the five and dime.

Hey, I've got a 5lb hunk of Silly Putty at home, anybody wanna celebrate?

I played with silly putty too in the 70's, although these days I wonder if lifting copies of the comics page on the magic stuff constitutes copyright infringement. I could see a 5 year old being arrested now.

Oh, the Silly Putty site is having a contest, based on the "sillyest use of silly putty." In a few months when the contest is over, I'd love to see the entries that will be disqualified for dangerous or indecent uses, you know people are going to think of strange ways to use silly putty.

I heard that you could use it to copy the imprint of someone's key and then get a copied key cut. Haven't tried it though.
