A much more practical solution may just to buy a PocketPC handheld, and then run emulation on it.
Not nearly as much "retro" street cred, but it seems a lot more appealing to me. Not to mention you can fit hundreds of games on even a small memory card. posted by matthew at 11:46 AM on July 9, 2001
Ah, but the portable 2600 is built from actual Atari 2600 hardware, raising the geek appeal by an order of magnitude... (apparently the Atari 2600, along with the NES and SNES can be run straight off of a 9 volt battery) posted by tweebiscuit at 1:17 PM on July 9, 2001
Ahhh the VCS...I remember when I first found this link. That was about a year ago. Now they are actually gonna sell them? Damn! I remember when I was actually considering going out and trying to build one of these myself, but now...hmmmm maybe.... posted by stew560 at 4:02 PM on July 9, 2001
This is incredibly cool. On a par with Vinyl Video. Though I lack the technical skill to build one of my own, I'm seriously considering an investment.
There's something most cool about building a device that the natural progression of technology somehow skipped over. Beautiful, really. posted by aladfar at 4:24 PM on July 9, 2001
