A fun little hate site posted by your friendly east-Asian police state. The header's a bit melodramatic for my taste, but...

Personally, I like the header. It's very subtle. Not heavy-handed at all.

Xinhua is a press agency, I wonder what happened to the journalistic objectivity.
Oh... yeah, now I remember... they're communists...

Given that Xinhua is just a mouthpiece for the government one has to take such a site with a grain of salt. Of course it its propaganda to support the government's crackdown on the Falun Gong. However, most of these posts seem to be heavy handed themselves. I agree with elle that Americans aren't objective. Much of the american media is just as bad. So-called journalists being paid by MNC's who have a direct influence on the politics of the world. Make sure that your own house is in order before you condemn someone elses.

yeah, but still.... you have to admit that American corporate-media propaganda is a little slicker. Imagine if abcnews.com had a section of smallish press photographs of rather generic looking occasions (people signing a banner so small in the image it's illegible, some old government official guy at a podium wagging a finger, etc.) with captions saying "Students Praise Disney, Denounce AOLTW," "More Disney Products Now, Say Inner-City Firefighters".

Nope. Instead we get movie previews dressed up as pseudonews about events that happened over half a century ago.

Come to think of it, I prefer Xinhua's style.

Why not condemn Xinhua Press Agency's attacks on and the Chinese government's policies against Falun Gong? You think that human rights violations should go unreported, unnoticed, and uncriticized because American news is biased in its own way, too. That is idiotic.

Repressive government-sponsored rights abuse is wrong, as is the parroting of the party line by a not-free press. Wrong any way you look at it, wrong from wherever your vantage point may be.

This post is doubtless brought to you by Microsoft, Shell Oil, Disney, and whoever else you think runs the place. Can you be so sure the Corporation's bony fingers aren't tweaking Metafilter's knobs?
