@graventy - How is this any more dangerous than using bit.ly or tiny.url? Or do you think people will accidentally click on links that ACTUALLY lead to a page about "how2print money orgy.avi"? posted by rebent at 3:35 PM on February 18, 2010
I think graventy is saying that people would get used to seeing this stuff in URLs and associate it with this joke site instead of actual threats. However, I don't see widespread usage in this thing's future.

I am at W, so each of these links really was suspicious and terrifying to click on. It was the biggest thrill of the day. posted by milestogo at 3:40 PM on February 18, 2010

There's a URL that would merit an interesting conversation with the HR department. Or security. Or the FBI. posted by zarq at 3:42 PM on February 18, 2010
Congrats brundlefly your URL was so scary that my at work browser blocked it. Posting from my nondogsex fearing iPhone. posted by ExitPursuedByBear at 3:47 PM on February 18, 2010 [3 favorites]

Reminds me of John Stewart mentioning the O'Reilly interview... I'm paraphrasing:

A slightly more useful tool which could allow you to pull the same tomfoolery, Krunchd, generates a single url for multiple links. It makes short work of sharing related things with others without the sloppy cut and paste-a-thon. posted by mnmlst at 4:58 PM on February 18, 2010
shii - I think you might be interested in this website called Metafilter. posted by porpoise at 7:42 PM on February 18, 2010

Yeah, that's exactly it. Once everyone gets used to a random nonsense domain ala 5z8.info they'll be more likely to click the malicious domains that use the same style.
It's not that likely, I guess. And it won't stop me from sending my friends scary google links. posted by graventy at 8:07 PM on February 18, 2010

http://5z8.info/racist-message-board_s0b7_pornnow. Heh. I think I'm going to need to add this domain to the whitelist on our network webfilter software, or we're going to be going to get all sorts of odd complaints about blocked pages... posted by ArkhanJG at 9:39 PM on February 18, 2010

I vaguely remember it.
That site was extremely popular for about two days, and then traffic almost completely disappeared. Towards the end it was getting maybe 120 visits a day, so I just shut it down to give myself one less site to administer. Maybe if I was making it today maybe I could partner with someone making an evil Twitter client. posted by lore at 7:06 AM on February 19, 2010 [5 favorites]
It's all fun and games until an admin at one of these url sites changes the links after you post them. Suddenly your taliban meetup link is really going to the taliban meetup site and the feds are velcro'ing their vests outside your door. Good luck trying to convince them the link previously went to a harmless site. posted by Crash at 7:19 AM on February 19, 2010
Artw : I'm totally using this for all internal projects.
Oh hell yeah, I'm totally looking forward to that conversation as well;
