I totally kept thinking about doing something like this when I was in art school.

Okay i kinda lost it early on with the Raft Of The Medusa cause I've wanted to have a scene shot like that for a long time. I fucking love that painting.

In the Louvre, an older Asian lady was copying The Raft (you see this a lot, people copying paintings in the gallery) and while she had the lighting totally down, she covered up the nude bits with bits of cloth or bigger stomachs which, considering the people on the raft are starving to death, amused me to no end

I like charming indie, I like art, I like tableaux vivants. Total win! Incidentally, Hold Your Horses look like they're fun to see live.

Oh love. The Raft and Marat and les soeurs d'Estrees and Judith especially; nicely-arranged and lit.

The Whelk: she covered up the nude bits with bits of cloth or bigger stomachs

My first thought after seeing a couple of different shots and realizing they were French was "how will they do Liberty Leading the People and Olympia?" Sure enough, they covered up the naughty parts. In some ways we live in a prudish age.

Oh, and after much searching, I found the band's MySpace page.

I looked up Manet's Olympia and my memory of that painting diverged markedly from reality. I didn't remember that Victorine Meurent had her hand resting on her genitals and I had completely forgotten about that black cat, if I even noticed it before (in case you're curious, the French for cat, chat, has the same meaning as pussy in English).

I love that the band basically describes themselves as a Sweden/Denmark-inspired newgrass band.

Here are a few more videos I found of the band live.

Wonderful! This is the type of thing I like to show in class to break things up. Thanks for posting!

You should totally turn this into a test! "Identify the paintings portrayed in this video." That's what the YouTube comments section has turned into. Which is good, because I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of Otto Dix's Portrait of the Journalist Sylvia von Harden and it was driving me crazy. And I suppose that it's probably too much to ask anyone to identify a specific Mondrian Composition.
