Arun Singhania, a controversial media baron operating a daily newspaper and chairman of a radio station in Janakpur, Nepal was shot dead 1 March by unidentified gunmen on two motorcycles. The Terai Janatantrik Mukti Morcha and the Terai Janatantrik Party-Madhes reportedly phoned news outlets in the area taking responsibility for orchestrated Singhania's murder.

Less than a month after a controversial media magnate was gunned down in daylight in the best-protected area of the capital, a media tycoon of Indian origin was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Nepal's restive southern plains adjoining the border with India. I assume the controversial media "magnate" was not of Indian origin and the media "baron" was. (magnate = benevolent, baron = evil?) Or maybe the magnate wore a blue bandana and the baron (as befitting) red?

I had no idea any of this was going on in Nepal. A Maoist party took power there in 2008, and the "Terai" group is an offshoot of that party proclaiming an independent state called Terai. A lot of these new revolutionaries were apparently trained by retired Gurkhas, too, which is an interesting angle.
