Man, no wonder every damn Tron game ever is represented.

Wow-- Tiger Heli? I haven't thought about that one for years.

Arcade Acid Challenge! Watch Billy Mitchell take on Steve Wiebe, only this time they're both Trippin' Balls!

Oh wait, I totally misread that

It's Food Fight, btw.

It's apparently NOT "tron deadly discs," btw, it should be.

Spy Hunter. Nice.

I recognized many of the games!

That makes me . . . a Recognizer?

#21? anyone got it?

Which one is that?
posted by Dr-Baa at 12:34 PM on March 11, 2010

#21 is the other Tron looking thing, it's the dude shooting something from one tower to the guy in the other tower.

Wait, wait, game's over, Billy Mitchell has just submitted a tape to twin galaxies in which 57 games have been found! Sorry, better luck next time.

Discs of Tron

ok, thanks.

I got to 40, then I found the answer sheet and cheated. There are some awful puns in there, but I'm pretty sure I'd have done better if I was five years older. Too many early arcade games I've never heard of.

10 to go! Can anyone give me a clue on the old guy with his eye hanging out? #50
posted by Dr-Baa at 12:48 PM on March 11, 2010

Clue? Um...awful pun...famous sailor.

I was stuck on zombie for that one. Waay off.
posted by graventy at 12:49 PM on March 11, 2010

Oh man, thank you. I was stuck on zombie too.
posted by Dr-Baa at 12:50 PM on March 11, 2010

14 to go. I don't know that one either Dr-Baa.

41 and 42 seem to be broken, or something that isn't the obvious answer.

Bomber man could have easily been Kaboom.

Ha ha! That's what I was thinking too.
posted by Dr-Baa at 12:52 PM on March 11, 2010

Well, I got 39. Going to look at the answers now but these are the ones I got stuck on:

#7: Yellow flower in flowerpot
#12: Two hot air balloons with people shooting each other
#13: White van with three castle guards around it
#15: Man removing human mask with skull underneath
#16: Man resembling Bill Gates with star on shirt
#27: Snake in a bowl of soup
#28: Flying saucer with Ace of Spades inside
#29: Geometric shape with arms, legs, and tennis shoes
#30: Broken computer monitor/TV
#32: Owl/Furby wearing a crown
#34: Rocket with apostrophe/comma and ampersand
#42: Man jumping out of skyscraper window
#43: Paper doll cutout from page on ground
#47: Knight with lance and shield
#50: Man with eyeball hanging out of socket
#52: Angry animal head floating over water
#55: Pink Cadillac with letter "D" pointing at bumper

41 and 42 seem to be broken

41 is a spinoff game. Where's 42 at?
posted by Dr-Baa at 12:54 PM on March 11, 2010

Nevermind-- 42 is a computer game that had a very successful sequel recently.
posted by Dr-Baa at 12:54 PM on March 11, 2010

...aaaaand, most of my problem games were obvious things that I should have tried typing but didn't think of.

I'm still a bit miffed those light cycles weren't Light Cycles.

This puzzle needed more Gorf and Sinistar. But other than that it was fun.
posted by Dr-Baa at 1:03 PM on March 11, 2010

This thing is all over the road chronologically, but I love it. 28 is sadly the best I can do without serious mind-bending.
posted by Monster_Zero at 1:06 PM on March 11, 2010

Thanks Dr-Baa, but how could that not be Jumpman? What the Hell is an RPG doing in an "arcade" list? The other one I had tried, but didn't know it had the deliberately incorrect spelling.
posted by ecurtz at 1:11 PM on March 11, 2010

apparently "flameout" is not the answer for #26. I think I've been spending too much time on MeTa.

What the Hell is an RPG doing in an "arcade" list?

My heart sank when I saw Call of Duty. But some of the more obscure ones redeemed it for me, like I noted with Tiger Heli.
posted by Dr-Baa at 1:22 PM on March 11, 2010

I got all but one of them on my own - I had to resort to Wikipedia's "list of arcade games" for the owl with the crown.

I don't care if it is Viral Marketing. It's AWESOME viral marketing.

#30: Broken computer monitor/TV

Definitely a TV.

Those double joysticks blew my pimply teenage mind.

which is a pretty strange thing to say

Some of these were really clever, quite a few were puns so bad they made me groan aloud. And, really, Tiger Heli is a frickin' game? I've never heard of it, and I kept trying to think of something clever...Big Cat Chopper? Tiger Copter? Sheesh.

S(o)uper Cobra has to be the worst pun.
posted by bashos_frog at 2:30 PM on March 11, 2010

But I'm glad it reminded me of Star Castle - gotta look for an iPhone version of that one.
posted by bashos_frog at 2:31 PM on March 11, 2010

It's funny, I remembered a number of these not for their quality but their infuriating lack of it. Tiger Heli is a good example, that was one I got because the rentals I wanted weren't available. And Fire Truck? Ugh, that brought back some long repressed memories of being a kid fascinated by fire trucks and firefighters. I was SO PSYCHED when I found that game, only to later realize that the entire game consists of...steering a firetruck. LAME.

This would have been more fun if you got to play the games after discovering them.
posted by eye of newt at 10:11 PM on March 11, 2010

I got 45 of them, and some friends who were handy came up with another four.

Number 5 has the wrong number of motion marks, and made me get confused as to which game is snowboarding and which is skating.

I'm sad there's no choplifter.
posted by aubilenon at 10:35 PM on March 11, 2010

For some reason this stupid thing is not accepting Fast Food Clock, Poker UFO or Singing Donkey.

or Burning Furballs from Space.

I have sent the idiot creators an email.

I would have gotten Defender sooner if it was pointing to the fender, not the bumper. =p
posted by Eideteker at 6:14 AM on March 12, 2010

Also, I was expecting these to all be actual arcade games.

Tiger Heli is a frickin' game? I've never heard of it, and I kept trying to think of something clever...Big Cat Chopper? Tiger Copter? Sheesh.

The developer, Toaplan, has become considerably better known over the years for a different game.

Tiger Heli is a good example, that was one I got because the rentals I wanted weren't available.

Classic case of shoddy arcade-to-home conversion. The arcade game, while not great, was not nearly as bad as the NES port.
