I bought 3 Quick Picks for the Lottery this week, thinking that if there were any balance in the universe I'd be due for a big payoff... If SuperLotto was High/Low, I'd have nailed it. I got one number. ONE. 5 number for lotto x 3 quick picks = 15 potential correct numbers. I got ONE. On the upside, I'm still due. Touch me now, I'm jam packed full of luck potentiality...

Ohhhhh... The "due for a win" theory, a classic in faulty-statistical-analysis and gambling-addition-enablement... I heard on a rerun of CarTalk today the Tappets commenting that they'd given two peices of good advice in a row and were due for a klunker. I expect that from the only NPR show that could air on commercial-talk KFI, but I thought Metafilter had higher standards... then again CUJoe is kind of "grandfathered-in" to this site. (Excuse me, its raining, I had to go in to an empty office, and I wanted to pick a fight with SOMEBODY)

Wendell, if it weren't raining and I wasn't pinned in by the damn marathon, I'd come over to your office and let you beat the crap out of me. As for fallacious-ness, I'm not actually jam packed with luck potentiality, I'm choc-full-o misinterpretable comic statements.

So we shouldn't touch either of you? Is that what you guys are saying? :) Illinois instant lottery tickets are required to print on the back of each ticket an 800 number for those who have a gambling problem. (I got a bunch of scratch-and-win tickets as a belated birthday present last night... as I only won $16, I don't see myself needing to call the number any time soon.)
