This post was deleted for the following reason: Lousy son of a bitch dies violently. It doesn't feel like there's a whole lot to say here, and the cutesy framing doesn't help. -- cortex

I hope he woke from his nap in time to feel the pain.

I can't take any pleasure in seeing someone murdered like that, but at the same time I can't say the world is worse off without him.

if you think of their symbol at corners on a three different intersecting planes, it's kind of the outline of a 3D cube. Why do hate groups have interesting graphic design?

Just so you get an idea about the group he ran, here's their website... and here's how they operate.

They apparently had a thriving community on Facebook, with about 5000 members... but thankfully, there are others who keep getting them shut down.

Unfortunately, the AWB and their supporters still persist.

Terreblanche, leader of the Afrikaner Resistance Movement (AWB), was sentenced to six years in jail for a beating in 1997 that left a black worker paralysed .... However, he will not be freed immediately, as he is serving a separate one-year prison sentence for assaulting petrol station attendant John Ndzima in 1996.

"Mr Terre'Blanche's body was found on the bed with facial and head injuries," Myburgh said. "There was a panga [broad-blade knife] on him and knobkerrie [wooden club] next to the bed. A 21-year-old man and 15-year-old boy were arrested and charged for his murder. The two told the police that the argument ensued because they were not paid for the work they did on the farm." She added that Terre'Blanche was alone with the two workers at the time of the attack.

Sounds like a violent man who met a violent death. That's a bit more than karma.

Even if your moral compass determines that being hacked to death in bed is just treatment for a vile racist like Terreblanche, please pause to consider that this will probably transform him from an embarrassment for much of the South African far-right to a martyr. It's not good news on anything but the basest level of wanting bad people to suffer.

having traveled with a white colleague on a field trip with east asian clients through urban and south africa, i'd just like to say that while I can appreciate and acknowledge the validity of what busy old fool has just said, I can also imagine that the perpetrators seeing red in the humiliation of the moment and not thinking as strategically as all that. sigh. not that it makes this a good thing. when will we all become blind?

"It's not good news on anything but the basest level of wanting bad people to suffer."

Thinking that the world is better off without them, however, is perfectly acceptable.

Would the world really be better off if Hitler had been captured and left to die in prison, or worse had he been executed instead?

Can anyone cite the killing of any racist leader that made his movement more powerful in the long run?

I get the impression that the default MetaFilter position is anti Boer. I don't like the Swastikettes and the calls to violence but I can sympathize with a minority people who have deep historical claims to their land and want to be left alone to self govern.

The Native peoples of North America make similar claims and I am guessing that most of us can get behind them.

The Boers are a perfect bogeyman for white guilt.

I am commenting here on the larger picture. This individual guy sounds like a violent asshole, so I suppose it is right and good that many of you here are cheering his death and hoping it was painful.

I admit that this is in pretty poor taste. But people always say, you know, what if you could go back in time and kill Hitler. Well this guy was obviously a wannabe Hitler, he even copied the flag. Plus he nearly murdered a dude, beating them so severly as to leave them disabled:
The South African far-right leader Eugene Terreblanche has been granted bail pending the outcome of an appeal against a conviction for attempted murder.

Terreblanche, leader of the Afrikaner Resistance Movement (AWB), was sentenced to six years in jail for a beating in 1997 that left a black worker paralysed.
That was from the BBC article. Also

So does the BNP. Plus, native? These people aren't natives. They're settlers who stole the Indians land in this analogy.

"I get the impression that the default MetaFilter position is anti Boer."

I don't think it has anything to do with being opposed to the Boers. This isn't about those who are ancestors of Dutch farmers.

It's about the idea of a white-run, separatist state that anyone -- who is white -- can be a part of, if they choose to identify as such.

If I was a Boer, I would be pretty angry that people like Terre'Blanche claimed to represent me, frankly.

I don't revel in his death, but comparing the Boers to the native peoples of the Americas is an odd comparison.
