It can be Caturday today?

Theory: If someone posts a video that has any behaviour even remotely unusual it will become viral, remixed, twisted and parodied to the point of absurdity.  New evidence continues to amass.

Some want to know more. Some say the theory stands on its own and should be taken to the next level and declared a law. Others have said they won't stand for this.

See also: Faith the (wonder) dog, who only has back legs, yet runs around. Plenty of videos showing Faith walking around, if that's what you want. (Note: "related" videos include various deformed things, which may not be to your liking.)

Let me guess. The cat's having a stroke, and a quirk in brain chemistry is causing him to stand. He's in extreme pain.

I feel great shame that I not only watched the Standing Cat video (twice...ugh), but also that I put it in my favorites. I thought I was better than that. I'm going to go watch it again, which I'm sure is some kind of cry for help.

This isn't news to anyone who's read The Master and Margarita. This is clearly Behemoth.

I cannot be the first person who thought of thus, right?

Nope!

Anyway, just because something is popular on the internet doesn't mean it's good.

Let me guess. The cat's having a stroke, and a quirk in brain chemistry is causing him to stand. He's in extreme pain.

He's watching birds through the window. Apparently the owners have gotten him a stand thing so he can see through it without standing now.

It's weird. I just had a mental lapse because I posted this to a board earlier, but didn't know it was a thing, and now I'm not sure if I did it because I'd seen it before subconciously, or if I legitimately 'discovered' it independent of the internet fad.

I feel very... post-postmodern

Thanks for posting, Hardcore Poser. Though personally I prefer videos where something, you know, happens.

The reason that standing cat is funny (at least vanilla standing cat... the edits for different, and perhaps inferior, reasons) is that nothing happens. It's a cat standing on two legs, which is ridiculous. That is a ridiculous thing, a cat standing like a man. But it's not like the cat is chasing something, or has a reason for standing (without the context offered by the "more" link), it's like, just clicking on that with no context or explanation, it's a cat that stands on its hind legs like that's "just what it does", and that is jarring and so far against expectations to be funny.

I think it's obvious is that Standing Cat is just rehearsing for the stage production of The Cat Returns.

Some of the scenes in the remixed video above are what I thought a site like Catroullette would look like. But then I found catroulette.

Actually, we are watching the original ending to Jacob's Ladder. Tim Robbins is the cat.
