If you like games, nature and -- er -- Pokemon, you may want to get in on the ground floor with Phylo, an open-source trading-card game being developed online at the University of British Columbia.
Inspired by a question from conservationist Andrew Balmford -- “Can we do whatever Pokemon does so well, but with the reality of biodiversity and ecology providing the content?” -- UBC’s Science Creative Quarterly has set out to make a crowdsourced card game that combines ecological values with the addictive qualities of a TCG.
With cards ranging from trees to fish to the striped skunk, Phylo is still in open development. That means you can get involved by contributing card art, helping review the rules, or joining the forum to see where contributions are needed.
