When the Rodney Morgan family arrived at the Ritz-Carlton, Naples, they made it clear they didn't want to be served by a black waiter or one with a foreign accent.

Nine witnesses would testify that they had been told the Morgans did not want to be served by blacks.

I had to read this 5 times to believe that I read it the first time. SRSLY? The Ritz-Carlton isn't classy enough to tell these idiots to go fuck themselves?

Exactly where in Britain are they insulated from mixing with folks from other cultures?

UK have any ideas? Can we google the Rodney Morgan family and find out where they live so we can have pizzas delivered to them? Lots and lots of pizzas?

I would think that if you have enough money, any establishment would throw any and all caution/morality/good sense to the wind and make sure that if you preferred, you could be served only by one-legged French dwarfs, if you wanted, and they'd be damned happy to do it.

It makes me sick, but so do people this wealthy, so.....

May I inquire, why is this even news? Because the hotel didn't boot them? Or because it's come up through a law suit? These people aren't noteworthy, beyond the fact that they have money and they're overtly racist.

The Ritz-Carlton isn't classy enough to tell these idiots to go fuck themselves?

Well, they let them stay in this hotel at the time, with an internal notation as follows:

[recording] on its computers the "preference" that the family not be served by "people of colour" or staff with "foreign accents". The note reportedly added: "This couple is very very prejudice".

But as for the hotel's views at the time of the article:

A British family has been banned from staying at a chain of luxury hotels after allegedly requesting not to be served by "people of colour" at a Florida resort.

I agree they should have been informed they weren't welcome as soon as they voiced their "preference," though.

Just to be clear, this Naples is the one in Florida, not the one in Italy. Not that that makes the story any less revolting.

I'm surprised they were banned from the hotel. Knowing Naples as I do, I would have thought the family would have been offered full-time residency.

Next time, I suggest the Morgans patronize the Asia Garden pub in Anchorage.

So, a British family comes to Florida. They demand their waiters not have "foreign" accents.

Britain. Florida. Britain. Florida.

This would have been an amazing opportunity for the hotel to tell the family that their own accents are, indeed, foreign.

Pause for emphasis, and then simply wait for whatever strange torrent of rationalization comes piping out of the family's collective talk-hole.

Let the Florida bashing begin.

What exactly does a Brit in Florida consider a foreign accent?
