A REAL Northern Exposure

A great blacksmith that I am acquainted with in Alaska noted the following on his (own entertaining) blog Home on the Yukon: "The ADN had a local story about a blogger in Dillingham who recently quit her job because her friends and neighbors found out about her blog and were offended. I have been reading through it, and it could easily be taken as rude, insulting, hyperbolic, and tasteless. OTOH, it also reads a lot like Hunter S Thompson, whose writing I enjoy, so I can see another point of view about it. I guess the essence is in distinguishing fiction from personal opinion. Here's the blog, titled "Chilly Hell, or --I'm In Dillingham Alaska, What's Your Excuse". I guess it's interesting to me partly because I would sorta like to write as well as HST, but I would never dare actually do it." Since his blog post, the title has been modified to "I'm No Longer In Dillingham Alaska, I Have No Excuse (and Neither Do You)". I suggest starting at the beginning, which was fittingly entitled "Disclaimer".

Who would have thought that dissing your neighbors in a publicly accessible blog could turn out badly?

Dude if you know the guy this isn't kosher, no matter how great a blog it is.

Yeah, this is too close to a self-link. The extended subtext for those is actually "self-or-anybody-I-really-know-in-any-way-link."

I believe spock knows the "great blacksmith," not the Dillingham blogger, therefore it's fine.

what a weird way to avoid acknowledging that you know what the rules are for this shit and you are willfully breaking them.
