That first link was pretty good on the first listen, thanks. The Jays used to do a good scratched version of that tune before their actual news bulletin. Or was it a different ABC news tune?

Here's another fantastic Perth hip hop toon. Great film clip, too.

*The Jays = JJJ = the youth radio part of the ABC.

Looks like it might have been a different tune. I can't find a link to it online, but I did find some info:

JJJ NEWS THEME
(Mix by Paul Mckercher with John Jacobs)
1990

The news theme for ABC's youth-oriented radio network Triple J includes original guitar, sound effects, samples from Prince and NWA, and a scratch of the last few seconds of The Majestic Fanfare, long familiar as the News theme on ABC radio.

Still do, as far as I know.

For me, the extended version ABC Local plays before the 7:45 AM bulletin, in particular, stirs some deep emotion in my ABC-lovin' heart.

* Actually listens to divabat's first link *

Yeah, they're mixing up the evening TV news theme, not the radio news theme.

Here is the full Bill Bailey sketch on apocalyptic news themes - from which the UK link above was derived.

That Bill Bailey bit is from his Part Troll show, I think? I remember loving it wherever it was that I saw it though, glad to see that and the JJJ news aren't the only takes on news themes :)

Been out of Oz for a couple of years, but it was a sad day when ABC replaced their evening news theme with this.

I also think the theme to 4 Corners is dying for a remix.

Weird. I was just thinking that the JJJ "remix" of the canonical ABC news theme ought to change to something more contemporary.

That first link has a few ideas, but nothing that would actually work.

This is groovy: The Stylistics for WCAU 10 News, Baltimore, 1982:

"The news you need
from people who care
wherever the news is
you know they are there
bringing it to you
and getting it right
join the switch to Channel 10 News
10 News...
Tonight, switch, move up to 10
join the switch, join the switch, move up to 10
join the switch, join the switch
you're movin' on up..."

...and the Australian parody version, with Ron Wilson from Network Ten.

I had no idea there were so many remixes of the BBC News music...
