It's funny because they say "boner" a lot.

actually, it is funny.
posted by lekvar at 12:02 AM on June 11, 2010

First off, no offense, but laughing at how many boners the Joker can make is as old as the god damned internet.

Second off, the Best Batman Comic Ever Made is undeniably the Crime and Punishment one.

For what it's worth, this comic (#66) is apparently from 1951 and the OED gives a first date of 1962 for boner as "erection": 1962 C. SIGAL Going Away 68 The little dog used to raise a boner every time it walked into a room where Rickie was present. So it's possible (unlikely!) that not everyone was in on the joke.

Also, dick butt is way funnier than the bonercomic.

Oh, is it the boner one?

Boners.

I like the idea of "raising" a boner, the way one might raise a crop of lettuce.

Actually the most apt lexical comparison might be the idea of raising a moustache.

"At some point, apparently on a whim, though how can a fellow be sure, Slothrop decides to raise a mustache."

ok I should have been off the internet about two hours ago

I remember asking my dad about this because he started buying me the Hardy Boys hardbacks for me to read when I was five, and Chet had a nasty habit of saying things like "Well, I guess we really pulled a boner on this one."
I thought it odd at the time that my dad seemed to know every word I asked a definition for, but sidestepped this one until I showed him the context..

PLEASE! Can anyone find for me the Superfriends clip where Batman is guarding Fort Knox and he gets tricked into drinking drugged chicken soup by a mad scientist posing as a street vendor and Batman actually asks if the soup is fresh before buying it? Please? Anyone?

I SWEAR I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP!

Damn. A Google search for "batman chicken soup" pulls up this Rating from Lore Fitzgerald Sjoberg but no clip.

Perhaps this is another late night TV WTF moment lost to the sands of time.

Wow that totem really makes me stand by my comment from yesterday that starting at any picture of the Joker is absolutely terrifying. Sometimes he makes me feel like I have some sort of repressed past life John Wayne Gacy memory or something the way I can shiver at clowns.

Personally this is my favorite Batman related panel; though I'm sure many of you have seen it, I'm always surprised how many havent.

i completely forgot that the word boner had another meaning other than phallic. i was wondering how Growing Pains had gotten away with a character named Boner, chalked it up to wacky 80's.

I don't get the fresh soup joke. Somebody explain?

Batman is supposed to be guarding Fort Knox, but is instead spending his time wondering if the clearly shady soup vendor is licensed, whether or not the soup is fresh, and finally the price of the soup. The vendor clearly says the soup is from a can ("just opened it this morning!") and yet Batman goes ahead with the purchase.

Batman - the World's Greatest Detective, Caped Crusader, Dark Knight, Scourge of Criminals Everywhere, Scientist, and one of the richest people in the world - is spending his time haggling over soup with two obvious criminals while standing in front of a chain link fence that appears to be in the middle of the desert.
