I will watch this show religiously. That guy is a seriously special snowflake and I think I do remember him from Jenean's party.

Awesome. Great attitude and a brilliant idea for a show. I'd watch it.

His marathon training session (The Tortioise and the Chair) reminds me of Kyle Maynard - world's toughest CrossFitter.

Very inspiring and awesome.

I laughed. Really, really hard. And I didn't feel bad about it. Mostly because of previously.

Please, god, please let this guy be massively successful, but don't let Oprah get any of the credit for it.

This is great.

Brilliant.

If the TV show falls through he should get a job on Mythbusters.

This guy is great! I'd watch any show he had creative control over. Time to vote early, and often.
posted by piratebowling at 5:06 AM on June 13, 2010

What piratebowling said, I am fucking smitten. Hope he wins, I really want to watch what this guy can do given a budget.
posted by kandinski at 5:48 AM on June 13, 2010

Awesome. I hope he wins. I'd watch anything he did.

He's right, too. Travel shows are all about the wrong things. The fancy restaurants, the incredible hotel rooms—you can't afford any of that shit. You're going to be staying in crappy places where there's a 50% chance you won't have hot water. You're going to get your camera stolen. But you can still have a great time! This is a show that needs to be made, and he's the perfect host for it.

This totally got my Sunday off to a great laugh/giggle/snort start.
The Dennis Quaid improv, the Bill CLinton book-signing "bastard" moment, and some of the Arrested Development moments were priceless.

Zach has SERIOUS comedy/improv chops and if this doesn't work out (or even if it does), he will make an EXCELLENT talk show host ala Graham Norton.
(he could be the show that follows Conan. Seriously)

Fuck, this guy is funny.
posted by mer2113 at 8:29 AM on June 13, 2010

Oh man, think of the serious chaos this man could sow as a Colbert Report/Daily Show correspondent. I cringe with delight at the thought.

However it pans out with the travel show idea, I really hope Zach gets a platform one way or another. He's a real talent, not to mention the huge but incidental good that just having a guy like this out there in the public sphere would do for others with CP.

Thanks so much for turning me on to him.

I love this guy. Hope he's a huge star.

He's a winner! This little clip (and his photo of his skydiving with a lolkitten in the middle of it) made my day.
posted by lleachie at 10:54 AM on June 13, 2010

He is so in the lead right now. Even if some of those votes get thrown out because they're due to mysterious scripts from the internet, I find it hard to believe that he won't still have a commanding lead.

And that pleases me greatly.
posted by redsparkler at 10:57 AM on June 13, 2010

When the video started, I was really afraid that all of the hype for him was the mean ironic love the internet gives to people embarrassing themselves. But then he started talking, and I realize that this guy seriously, seriously rocks. My life would totally be improved if I got to watch his travel show.

That Dennis Quaid "British middle-aged couple in crisis" bit had me howling.

"Who's pressuring you?! Is it the gardener again!?"

He's great! And it gives me a chance to share this clip from Josh Blue.

Brilliant. If he wins it would be a credit to the very best part of the internet: content, creativity, and community.
posted by toni_jean at 9:01 PM on June 13, 2010

Oh man, great to see this here. I worked down the hall from that guy in college and he was really funny and so was his show. Very funny video. I hope all the Oprahy people can appreciate it.

Why isn't Metafilter going crazy about this? Curious.

Here's an update from Zach!

Yeah, he's got buckets of 'it.'
They don't make a show with this guy they're idiots.
Oh, shit...

I'd like to pony up $5 for a MeFi membership for Zach so I can spouse the heck out of him.

That update (via suedehead) is awesome, too. "What the balls?!"
posted by Alt F4 at 4:54 AM on June 14, 2010

suedehead I wondered as well at why metafilter didn't crawl all over this. Pretty rich thread material for the likes of MeFis. You had me at "wheelchair bound lady magnet."
posted by madred at 7:02 AM on June 14, 2010

Fuck you, "wheelchair bound." If he's wheelchair bound, someone needs to go to jail for tying a poor soul to a wheelchair.

Oh, you mean he's a PERSON, who uses a WHEELCHAIR? Oh, I got it.

Zach Anner Rolls Over Austin. This guy's show will be amazing.

reddit alleges hijinks - some 6 million votes for Anner have disappeared and he went from #1 to #7.
