I bet he's eager to get the hell outta Washington, back to the safety of his bucolic fantasy world where Daddy and Uncle Dick make everything alright while Dubbya himself gets to go cow-tipping.

The guy is an absurd asshole. Clearly I am not a Republican. Clearly I do not think much of Bush. But I never realized just how stupid or silly he was till recently. I thought he was a bit shallow, not very articulate etc but perhaps clever. Of late his every statement makes him seem even worse than many of us imagined. I have a few right-leaning friends who have come to feel this way too.

Perhaps this 'dimwit' is a little more cunning than we believe him to be. That statement was a retaliation for Indian's naming their dogs George Bush. Cows are a religious icon in India, so W is probably equating the talking cows as a message from God. He's telling the Indian's that their God talks to him and they should be worshipping him as well.

Then again, he could just be really stupid.

``It's important for all of us in Washington to stay in touch with the values of the heartland, because they are values that really are unique,'' Bush said. He identified these values as ``hard work, family, faith.''

He's such a rich source of comedy. If hard work "really [is] unique" to the heartland, does that explain Bush closing the Oval Office at 5pm every day?

Well, what would you sensitive, enlightened folks rather George do? Listen to the cows talk, or kill them and eat them, or maybe turn 'em over to Damien Hurst?

We're taking names. If any of you wiseasses dares to post to the next animal rights/respect-your-four-legged-brothers thread you will be reminded of your comments here.

"To understand the deep-rooted relationship of man and cow, we must review the historical forces which brought man and cow, the two mammals so diverse, so close."

I'm still not sure if Dubya making it to the oval office means that I should be proud to live a country where, indeed, anyone can ascend to power, or I should be bummed out that clearly only power and influence count for anything.

Wow Postroad, what an extremely articulate analysis you put forth of a joke told to a group of high school students that are in a Future Farmers of America program. Have you ever heard of speaking for your audience? It really doesn't make Bush's opponents look very articulate or clever when they have to dig this deep for something to bash him about. Actually, the shallowness of this attack only demonstrates how well he is doing...

Here's the thing Republicans/Conservatives/Etc: While I can't/couldn't stand Newt Gingrich, Bob Dole, Tom Delay, Trent Lott, or Bush The Elder - at the very least they could (more or less) coherently articulate their (usually incorrect) positions. For instance: Newt Gingrich is a hypocritical a-hole, but I'm the first to admit the guy has a brain - only he uses it for evil.

Bush II on the other hand, makes Reagan on his most daffy day seem like a Rhodes Scholar.

Maybe there's something to the principle that a president's performance is based on the stupidity of his opponents. Clinton's job approval was never higher than after Lucianne Goldberg, Matt Drudge, Ann Coulter and the other kooks got a national spotlight by bashing him.

If I bothered blowing all the "political speak" that Al Gore has ever used in the past into an overblown bunch of bullshit like this I would have had a aneurism a long time ago...

In the speech you quoted, Bush linked the values to the heartland and he called the values unique but he did not say they were unique to the heartland.
