Bongwater: The Power of Pussy

Long lost Bongwater video makes its internet debut! NSFW!

Perhaps you've heard of Bongwater? Performance artist/actress Ann Magnuson was the lead singer and had some sweet outfits. Anyway, here is the NSFW video (and backstory on the making of the video) for their 90's feminist hit song Power of Pussy. It contains naked people and animated penises, so beware!

That. Is. Awesome.

Some have teeth, some have hair. Some have soft sweet petals, some look like Cher.

I am a huge Bongwater fan. Thanks for this!

Previously, carsonb's post linked to a Bongwater performance on Night Music.

Bongwater and Kramer did weird things to my teenage brain. I thank them/him for it.

Was this really lost? I know I have seen it before.

PoP is just a gem. Though half of the references are incredibly dated at this point, the raw manic energy of Folk Song has the power to get people caught up in it still.

This is just so goddamned good. How do I not know this band?

Ditto it was lost? We have this on a Shimmy Disc VHS collection somewhere--I can't believe this has not been on YouTube since day one!

I saw Ann Magnuson perform in the early 90's and she told a story about how she was working on a sitcom (I believe it was Anything But Love) at the time the Power of Pussy video was released, and how Entertainment Tonight came to her all excited because a tv actor was releasing this cool music video and she had to tell them maybe they should watch the video first and then she never heard from the again.

Quarterframer--
That is exactly where I have seen it. Shimmy Disc sent one of those sampler VHS to this public access video show I was loosely involved with. I emailed this link to the guy who did the show. He is still angry someone stole that tape.

I was blown away by Bongwater in college. Really incredible band.

Also, I was really fucking high whenever I used to listen to Bongwater. Go figure.

Cool video.

Bongwater were an especially great covers band. They did nice versions of Slap Happy's 'The Drum', Roky Erikson 'You Don't Love Me Yet', Weavers "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine", Monkee's "Porpoise Song".

They also covered Led Zep's "Dazed & Confused" in Chinese!

We did videos for John Sex, two for Larry Tee, one for an absolutely brilliant band called The Beme Seed, whose lead singer was Kathleen Lynch, the naked, gyrating go-go dancer from deep within the bowels of Hell who made the live Butthole Surfers experience so deeply berserk in the mid-80s. I’m going to post them all here in the coming week.

Alright, bookmarked that link. Thanks!

"Nick Cave Dolls" remains THE Bongwater song for me, though...
