Which Andrew W.K. was that? He looked like the real deal, not the party guy who didn't sing and looked much younger and smaller. posted by reklus at 7:50 AM on July 1, 2010
I thought we had determined Andrew WK was a myth... posted by saulgoodman at 8:04 AM on July 1, 2010

Meh. Call me when there's real cutting. posted by tommasz at 8:26 AM on July 1, 2010
@tommasz:
Well, the description in the FPP is right; it truly is a cutting contest like no other. That being said, it was very entertaining in its own right. I was first introduced to Gonzales through his album Solo Piano. It's a nice little piece of piano music, very reminiscent of Erik Satie. Used it as "lullaby" music for my then 9-month-old a few times.
This piano battle reminded me a lot of early Keith Jarret improvs, minus the Asshole Genius™ factor. posted by jnrussell at 9:17 AM on July 1, 2010
And yes, I misspelled Jarrett. posted by jnrussell at 9:27 AM on July 1, 2010
I like the idea of musical battles, and I think that Gonzales made a slightly better effort, but I didn't find either of them to be very talented or entertaining as far as improvising at the piano is concerned. When I negated their star power, it was kind of boring to listen to. posted by hanoixan at 9:31 AM on July 1, 2010 [1 favorite]
It's not just me is it? At the very end of the last round video, Andrew WK is not playing that. posted by rusty at 12:42 PM on July 1, 2010
I want to do a album art cover party where everyone recreates an album art cover. Gonna do his first album. posted by ziadbc at 7:39 PM on July 1, 2010 [1 favorite]
