Official EU social network

Me & EU has just been launched. It is an EU funded social network for the EU.

The aim is to bring young Europeans into contact with eachother.
So far its existence seems to be a secret outside of the Netherlands.

This might be an odd first question, but if it's the official EU social network why is it .tv and not .eu?

I was wondering the same thing. But there are questions being asked in Dutch parliament about the fact that it has been funded by European Commissionar for the Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes. So it's definitely 'official' in that sense.

But a dot tv domain? Tuvalu isn't even in the EU!

Is it for Europeans, though?

From the About Us link
me & EU is a new independent social network and lets you easily discover what’s up in your area and even in other countries. Through me & EU you can meet new friends, share your ideas, dreams and projects. Or post about your favourite local snack. ;-) It’s all up to you.
Independent from what?

Just remember me & EU is your own platform that can be as interesting as you want it to be. So, what are you going to do with it?

Ignore it and hope it goes away?

It looks like a tumblr blog, but maybe I'm just jealous that this - like the EU - is another club in which I am not welcome.

Yeah, cos what Europe is really lacking is a web-based social network where you can post details about your favourite snacks.

Maybe it's a 12 dimensional chess type metaphor about how EU membership value is sinking like Tuvalu.

Not loading for me. They probably know Iowa isn't in the EU. (It's not, right?)

plus... not so much on the privacy options:
"You can imagine our grave disappointment today when we learned that Ms. Kroes has launched a new, European social network site, called ‘Me & EU‘, that flaunts every possible privacy option available and explicitly states that users’ privacy can and may be violated. "

Following in Facebook's footsteps, then?

How about Mac and Me and EU. Oh that's right, Spain did it 27 years ago... it was called Pod People.

Is the idea that Europeans will flock from one massive privacy violation that was quietly funded by the CIA to another massive privacy violation that was openly funded by their own tax collectors?

I'd never suppose that Europeans like giving the CIA all their personal details, but given the CIA's irrelevance to their local laws, yeah maybe they'd choose the CIA over certain more familiar organizations.

I find it hard to believe this site has received EU funding. Appart from the domain issue, prominently and explictly displaying EU affiliation is usually a requirement for this kind of thing, along with the project or specific bureaucracy branch providing the funds.

heh..so, I'm looking at "who's new" and one of the names is Mayor Curley...

besides that bit of laugh... man, does that site suck in terms of color, design, UI, etc, etc... a bit of a cluttered mess..

Just like the Dutch SP party I was misinformed; Kroes did the opening of the site but has no relation to it. Read here in Dutch.
Too bad. I'll ask for deletion of the post.
