And suddenly I realized that all of this, the gun, the bombs, the revolution has got something to do with a girl named Sloane Peterson. posted by Babblesort at 7:51 AM on July 15, 2010 [2 favorites]
Yay!
Side note that occurred to me since the original thread -- okay, just now . . .

A bit of an editing mistake, maybe. Cameron and Ferris shouldn't be in the same frame as Sloane. Ed Norton and Brad Pitt's characters were never in the same frame with Helena Bonham Carter. posted by Blazecock Pileon at 12:10 PM on July 15, 2010 [1 favorite]
This is cute, but aside from some stylistic embellishments, I really don't see the connection between the two movies. Maybe I just have teh stoopidz. posted by slogger at 12:13 PM on July 15, 2010

That was sheerly for reasons of self-preservation.
Also, Ed Norton never wore a Gordie Howe jersey, which creates another level of disassociated personality. posted by Clyde Mnestra at 12:19 PM on July 15, 2010

IIRC, there's an interpretation (possibly several) of the film that posit that either Ferris or Cameron are the id & superego/dual personality/mirror universe versions of the same person. Thus, one breaks the fourth wall, has near-perfect parents and an (almost) evil sibling, and has adventures bordering on impossible, while the other deals with the problems of mundane real life and the consequences of their actions. posted by zombieflanders at 12:23 PM on July 15, 2010

Thanks, zombieflanders. I got that part from Cool Papa Bell's great comment. I guess I'm not seeing how that's reflected in this trailer. Guess I shouldn't have had that oversize plate of beans for lunch. posted by slogger at 12:42 PM on July 15, 2010
Actually slogger, I kind of agree with you - I'm not sure I would have gotten the point of the trailer without reading the original idea. posted by Think_Long at 12:50 PM on July 15, 2010

Isn't there a line where Cameron says "Ferris can do anything"? That seems like it would go pretty well. There's also a bit where he calls Ferris psychotic.
There are some choice Ferris lines/moments that work well as is or can be reinterpreted to have a slightly different meaning. Just off the top of my head:
- Introducing himself to the girls in bikinis
- The question isn't "what are we going to do," the question is "what aren't we going to do?"
- A person should not believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
- Cameron, dear friend, you thought we wouldn't have any fun. Shame on you.
- You can never go too far
