"Knock Out Eileen," a rather cool mash-up by Thriftshop XL of "Come On Eileen" (Dexy's Midnight Runners) and "Mama Said Knock You Out" (LL Cool J). (slyt)

There's 80,000 mashups on youtube. Why is this one special?

Its kind of uncanny how I never heard the similarity before and now when I listen to the original LL Cool J version.... Come on Eileen is all I can hear in the background.

Guys, guys, come on. Enough of this; it's "there are."

This mashup is quite good.

Two words; it's awsome.

I'll use this opportunity to once again remind the internet that it's a bit odd that there's no comma before "Eileen" in the song title.

Because it's freaking amazing and made me giggle like a schoolgirl?

Haha, I love this. It works beautifully.

I'm just not feeling it either. It's pasting one song on top of another. Much of the time "mashup" is just a code word for "craptastic lazy remix where the minimum possible was done and no one was surprised and/or delighted."

Sorry to pee all over the corn flakes. I'll try to be more upbeat from now on.

It's just perfect. I couldn't stop smiling the whole time.

Loved it.

I approve. (Not worth a post, but I approve).

I also don't trust any mashup DJs who don't offer free downloads. Triplets of Belleville vs. Hot in Herre was cute, tho.

What similarity? You can pretty much put any hip-hop a capella over any song and it works. You don't even need to match keys.

Ehhh sorry. Aside from being done by someone with a reasonable understanding of time signature (which is certainly a plus), it seemed sort of superfluous.

Loved the Belleville vs Hot in Herre, though, mrgrimm!!

This confused me, so I'm going to point it out... The music mashup is by DJ Lobsterdust*, the video is by Thriftshop XL.

*I love me some DJ Lobsterdust

I'd like to recommend: "Party and Bullshit (In the USA)" [Miley Cyrus & Notorious B.I.G.] by Hathbanger, which has actually made it onto my running mix.

This was a crappy mashup. 2 songs I could stand to never hear again. Together.

This mashup makes me want to dance insouciantly through the street, punching out everybody I run into.

So, I like it!

I preferred the Smiths/Housemartins mashup:

I preferred the Smiths/Housemartins mashup:

It reminded me to go dig out the Housemartins CDs that have sifted to the bottom of the stack. Maybe a bit too easy of a mashup, though it did work beautifully.

"craptastic lazy remix where the minimum possible was done and no one was surprised and/or delighted."

It was better than craptastic and worse than awesome.

Well, for kicks, I'll post one of my all-time favourite mashups, by pheugoo:

Coldplay vs that Austin Powers Madonna song becomes a very, very melancholy ballad. It is awesome.

Still really like the mashup in the post. Rock on.

I'd managed not to notice, until today, the whole "guys harrassing woman on street corner" bit of the video. Hum.

Should have been Come On Eileen against Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover.

Wow. That really works.

There is also Bad (Michael Jackson) vs Ghostbusters, and the existential horror of Super Mario Glos. (Lil Mama vs Mario Bros.).

I guess so, if you don't care about little things like rhythm.

The OP mashup was jarring but the Smiths/Housemartins one is rather exce3llent.

However, this is possibly the best mash-up there is.

I liked this, but I'm pretty easily impressed.

The Muppets reminded me of one of my favorite (non-mashup) YouTube moments: World Leader Gay Bar.

The Evolution Control Committee's By The Time I Get To Arizona (Whipped
Cream Mix)
remains the one true mashup for me.

The Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" + the Pendulum remix of The Prodigy's "Voodoo People" = Voodoo Sabotage by The Kleptones.

Their entire Uptime album is goddamn brilliant.

... I don't get it.

Seriously. Can someone explain to me what the point of this was?

Dexy's Midnight Runners vs. L.L. Cool J?

Personally, one of my favorites has always been Love Will Tear You Apart (She Wants Originality). I like those mashups where the ripoff band (She Wants Revenge) is mashed up with the original (Joy Division), or with songs in similar genres.

Back in the day, one of my favorite mashups was Come On Eileen mashed with Bring the Noise by Public Enemy.

Yep. Along with Xtina vs. The Strokes and Smells Like Bootylicious, that was the start of the mashup era for me.

Someone find this for me.

Yeah, no. Sorry. But post it to YT or somewhere if you find it!
