Looking for a catchy ICQ number?

Looking for a catchy ICQ number? How about a short one? I can understand domain name reselling, but this is ridiculous. What's next, a market for easy to remember IP addresses?

Damn, and there're bids on them, too!

Curses! My ICQ# is probably too long to sell. What do you think? Is 4574726 short enough or catchy enough? I never use the damn thing anymore.

Email addresses, of course :) I have a no-longer-used email address that I've had for a number of years that I think is pretty cool (feminist@mindspring.com, for the curious) and once wondered for about five minutes if it could be sold...

But then I realized I'd have to pay someone to take it, given all the spam that it gets, so fuggedaboutit.

Maybe I should sell mine. It's catchy and easy to remember.

Damn, should have kept my first number, can't remember the password now. My current one is easy to remember, could probably make some money selling it.

I barely made it into the 6-digit club with 914733, but it's still pretty easy to remember. I wonder if I can trade it for food stamps?

how 'bout, with the money this muppet gets from his/her icq number he get some serious mind help. Hopefully he/she will share it amongst those who bid for it as well, so they can all go to the funny farm and HOWWWWLLLL at the moon.

IF you can believe it, somone STOLE my ICQ number a while back. It was nice and short.

Ooh, this guy is getting bids! I have 263121, but I haven't used it for a few years now. If I could get just $50 for mine it'd be a result ;-) Then again, I don't really hear much of ICQ nowadays, isn't everyone using MSN, Yahoo or AOL now?

Is ICQ really that compelling any more? Could someone explain?

I have not used my ICQ#: 4488 0102 in over a year. It's pretty easy to remember -- the second set of two digits are x2 the previous set. [I do wish I had signed up with ICQ the first time I saw it. I always lurk too long to get the lower digits.]

Take a look at the completed auctions sorted by price. Several sold for over $300.

I paid $75 on EBay for ICQ 122922 a few years ago. I thought I needed it for a project, but more than anything I loved the idea of buying something strictly for the numerical cachet. I used to pine for low Geocities address numbers too.

Oops. Bad link -- ICQ 122922.

As of this second, there are 9995 Mefi users. Only four more <10000 ids left!

"Ten is beautiful,'' Rattenni repeats. "Beautiful. That must have been a Providence police motorcycle plate.''

A similar cult of small numbers exists among drivers in Rhode Island: the state runs a lottery for the coveted low-number plates. Do other states' drivers subscribe to this particular obsession?

Anyone want my ICQ #, 4895763? I had lists and lists of friends and family on ICQ and then AOL made it easier in my opinion. I gave up on ICQ but it was the thing to have in college. Like most I haven't used the thing in ages, but I do have the hard to remember passwords so it should work.

ICQ 189290.
Since I've used ICQ about twice since registering back in the day, I think it's time I cashed in on my early-adopting ways.

I have several seven-digit ICQ numbers, a sub-1000 MeFi ID, and a Slashdot ID somewhere in the 15xxx range.

The problem with me selling an ICQ number is the fact that I have 6 ICQ numbers because I kept forgetting my passwords whenever I'd switch computers. The one I currently use is 11 digits, which I know I will promptly forget after I reinstall the OS or switch boxes or something. I now use AIM instead.

Okay, I'll bite; ICQ 12281057, MeFi 3406, Slashdot (I like this 'cause it's binary) 10111, Plastic (THIS is easy to remember) 1988.

864824. All even. Easy to remember - 864, 824. Or for the geeky, 8 times 6 is 48, half of which is 24. Byoodiful.

What am I bid for this fine ICQ UIN? :)
posted by obiwanwasabi at 7:12 PM on July 31, 2001

Ok, so I wasn't an early adopter on ICQ (19543905), but I've got a sub-1000 MeFi userid (967) and a sub-5000 Slashdot userid (4454). Where's my money?

I'm selling userID number 8 (single digit!!!) at eBay.

This could be you.

Bid early, bid often.

As someone was saying further above about having their ICQ Number stolen, I wouldn't be surprised if that's how these ICQ numbers were obtained. This happens all the time with other services like online games because I regularly see people bragging about how much they sold so-and-so gaming account for after they tricked someone into running a trojan horse.

"This UIN is NOT stolen." Riiiight.

Matt, you're sitting on a potential goldmine there. IDs 1-26 are open except for you and #8. 28, 31, and 35-37 are open, too.

(Ok, so I'm really bored tonight...)

My Mefi number is just over 200, and my ICQ number is in the 200000s. Does this make me 1337? Cool!

What is so special about account no. 8? Drew at Fark sold his No.8 a while back at eBay.
