I'm calling bullshit. That article is full of Rs. There's no way Woss wrote that.

Wow. Awesome.

Steranko is The Escapist!

I'll definately be following Wossy's Comic Con blog. Weird how just lately he seems to have become this nexus of all kinds of comicbook awesomeness.

The real revelation here is how much Frank Miller's Sin City owes to Steranko's Chandler illustrations. I'm glad that Ross got to meet his comics hero, but he really lost me when he said that Steranko "outgrew" Kirby; a lot of artists started with Kirby and took their work in many different directions, but no one really achieved anywhere near the scope and depth of the King.

Well Woss certainly writes about comics much better than he writes actual comics... or perhaps he just gets a better editor on the Grauniad.

And glad to see Steranko is a complete mentalist...

For me, Steranko is the one guy who could claim something like that. I'm uncomfortable with the word "outgrew", especially for someone whose output was relatively small, but he did blaze new paths. The complicating problem is Steranko's 50 year self-promotional campaign rubs the wrong way now. It's of a time and place, I just wish he could transition into Friendly Old Giant of the Field. Maybe that doesn't happen until you lose your hair.

I had a job interview with Jim Steranko a long time ago when he was publishing Prevue magazine. I was woefully unqualified for the job but Jim was gracious and gave me some good advice about writing.

That hair looks a bit suspicious to me...

"That hair looks a bit suspicious..." yeah I'd like to see Steranko's toupee take on Shatner's in a duel to the death. I mean my god, it looks like it could sprout wings and fly away. He should have that thing neutered!
