13 Most Beautiful...

You know, I just watch the Lou Reed one over and over again, in the hope that YouTube's video compression doesn't remove wavelengths in the Totally-Badass-And-Cool range of the EM spectrum (I hope my monitor comes through for me here), so that I can get a hot hit of them free radicals and hopefully build some swagger and, hey, maybe some sunglasses too.

But in all seriousness, Dean and Britta's cover of "I'm Not A Young Man Anymore" is so faithful to the Velvets' sound that I was kicking myself for a long time for not being able to find the bootleg that had the studio version of that tune on it.

I saw a performance of this earlier in the year - it was lovely. I wanted to see more screen tests, with more songs. So haunting and beautiful.

I like Dean Wareham's easygoing covers, but when it comes to "I'm Not A Young Man Anymore" he doesn't touch the rumbling menace of the original (or at least the version on "Gymnasium," which is the only one I've heard.)

"hopefully build some swagger and, hey, maybe some sunglasses too."

It is true that Lou always had the coolest sunglasses.

One of my girlfriends looked just like Nico. She cut her hair and we split up. But not because of the hair. The end.
