New old photos from behind the scenes at Twin Peaks August 14, 2010 3:43 AM Subscribe
Paula K. Shimatsu-u, who worked behind the scenes at Twin Peaks, has a book coming out with previously unpublished photos from on and off the set. Wired has a gallery that boasts, among other delights, Michael Horse reading a book beside a deer's head, and Sheryl Lee with Sherilyn Fenn wearing, respectively, a lovely bobble cap and a very fetching jumper. posted by Stan Carey (15 comments total)

How do you pronounce "Shimatsu-u"? With a glottal stop?
Because that's awesome. posted by KChasm at 4:13 AM on August 14, 2010
Yeah, I can't get past that extra "u". posted by zardoz at 4:16 AM on August 14, 2010
The hyphen should be pronounced backwards by a midget. posted by twoleftfeet at 4:34 AM on August 14, 2010 [2 favorites]
I can't help but notice Sherilyn Fenn and I are still not married to each other. When did my life go so wrong? posted by mhjb at 4:41 AM on August 14, 2010 [3 favorites]
Did you try tying the knot with your tongue? posted by twoleftfeet at 4:48 AM on August 14, 2010
Ahh, Ray Wise being wonderfully creepy even through a still photo.
We should get one of those "internet users funded movie projects" going on and get him to play Mister E in a film version of the DC comic book character. posted by Iosephus at 5:03 AM on August 14, 2010 [1 favorite]
That deer's head is the centerpiece of one of my favorite Twin Peaks scenes ever. Something about the bank teller's delivery of "Oh, it fell down" kills me every time. posted by punchdrunkhistory at 6:11 AM on August 14, 2010

I'd say you dodged a bullet there. She seemed bitter and craggily on the Gold Box DVD interview. posted by Houyhnhnm at 8:51 AM on August 14, 2010
Dur, there are captions that say this. My bad. posted by Green With You at 9:14 AM on August 14, 2010
Since she writes "Shimatsu-U." with a period, short for "Shimatsu-Utsushigawa" I guess, you would pronounce the hyphen the same way you pronounce it in "Blutarski-Inverness," say.
Alternately you could pronounce it like you were speaking backwards and your speech was then being played back forwards in a dream-world where owls fly behind menacing curtains. posted by No-sword at 1:16 PM on August 14, 2010
I was going to post this, but then realised Wired's claim of "never before seen" was pretty wrong, since most of those are publicity shots that were widely used when the series was on the air.
The collection is absolutely worth it for this photo of Ray Wise as Leland Palmer losing his shit.
Because that's awesome.
