The New York Review of Bookssite has been sensibly redesigned. You no longer have to page through essays, and there are now links to related articles from the magazine's archives.

Years ago I used to read that journal avidly. then , later, I discovered I could no longer understand what was being said. Still later, I continued to subscribe so I could read the Personals. Then I could not even understand them. Now I look at it for the book ads. They are pretty and don't take much work. But the books advertised are books I could not understand so I just admire the ads.

For all sites that don't have a "printer-friendly" option, wget and shell-script loops are your friend.

dear Holgate: what are wget and shell script loops? Can a dope use this? I have no tech ability. Opening this site is about all I can do. And now I can post a note. but that is about it.

You might be best off using an offline browser, Postroad. I do most of my browsing with Linux, and using wget lets me snaffle sequences of pages, which is useful for those sites that split up stories into page1.html, page2.html and so on.

That sounds like the previous issue, before they switched. The current issue (I'm looking at it right now) displays an entire article on one Web page so you no longer have to click continue a dozen times.
